Some possible ideas -
Don Quixote - Garrick
The night before Christmas - Southwark Playhouse ( suitable for 14yrs+ according to the play info). From the website, it sounds like a comedy!

Thanks david, I’ve booked for Don Quixote just for myself and OH. It might be the one. I’ll check out the Southwark which will be cheaper.

How about Company at the Gielgud?
Encourage the youngest family member to record Patti on their phone.
Stand well back as Patti explodes, the youngest family member dissolves into floods of tears, and you all fall about in fits of uncontrollable laughter...

How about A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic? The second act really ramped up the comedy last year, listen to those beautiful bells, and everyone will come out with a huge smile on their faces. Mince pies and satsumas too!

I'd second the suggestion of the Old Vic Christmas Carol. Can't think of anything more appropriate for a Christmas family outing
There are plenty of past productions of The Night Before Christmas so you can check out reviews. Sounds like the content is quite "adult" (drugs, strong language, etc) so maybe not appropriate depending on the age of your guests. There is a musical version but I think Southwark are doing the original play.
The RSC Merry Wives of Windsor will be on at the Barbican
Depending again on the age range, "A Very Very Dark Matter" at the Bridge

Suggesting The Play That Goes Wrong as something that is 'funny but not farce' is as opposite as you can get. TPTGW is an unfunny farce!

Sorry, slow to respond. Yes, thank you all for the suggestions. Personally I would like the panto! Not suitable for under 12 cos risqué or scary? In the past I have issued orders, be at x at 7.30 and they turn up, sometimes asking what we are seeing by text on the day. So they indulge me. The Old Vic was supposed to be great so I will check out that too.
