I think it’s good to refresh the show a bit and I think the costumes look great.

It’s definitely pared down but as a person who isn’t obsessed with buses I’m ok with it. Especially given that the last tour looked tired AF. The costumes were dirty and visibly repaired or even worse NOT repaired.
Looking forward to it.

Looks good, lots of colour and fun. Joe McFadden seems like he suits the role so looking forward to seeing him in it.

I saw this on Saturday in Malvern. I never saw it when it was in the West End so can't compare but after reading all the comments here I went with very low expectations.
The theatre was packed and it went down a storm with a very quick standing ovation at the end. When everyone was leaving after the performance there was a real high buzz in the air as everyone was still laughing and smiling.
Yes I've seen slicker musical productions and staging but there was no doubt that this was a fun lifting musical that didn't take it self too seriously. There were some amazing voices and some not as good. For me not seeing any other bus before, this bus worked for this performance wasn't amazing but functional.
I thoroughly enjoyed the show and walked out with a smile on my face along with the rest of the theatre. Considering a really comfortable good seat in a great theatre for £33 there was lots to smile about.

Do they still do the audience participation at the beginning of act 2? No. Good. They always go for me. One of bloody Gloria Estefan’s mob went for me to do Conga last week at On Your Feet 😟

I saw this in Edinburgh this afternoon and it was lovely. Not the best production I've seen, but the cast were great and it was just a fun feel-good show which is exactly what is needed in these cold months. I was sat in the balcony for £13. Couldn't see facial expressions but this is the best perspective to see the choreography, and the lighting design.

Well I really enjoyed it. It may be stripped back drastically from the WestEnd version but it has heart. The new costumes are brilliant and there's fantastic performances from all the cast who all worked really hard in numerous roles. Joe McFadden gave a great performance as Tick, very refreshing after the phoned-in performances last given by Mr Donovan and both the husband and I thought 'Bob' was rather cute(but then we are a bit partial to men of the chunky hirsute variety). The bus actually works really well, a good compromise between the impractical original and the awful coathanger contraption of the first tour. This production didn't hold back on the homophobic issues either, not glossing over the graffitiing of the bus and assault on Adam. Only one scene didn't work for me, the Operatic section. Not sure why they added a dance for all the cast, it detracted from Adam's performance on top of the bus. All in all though a very enjoyable show, much needed on a miserable Monday in November.

I saw it in Manchester last night, and it will never be the best show you will ever see, but it's always great fun!
I had just forgotten that the audience for this one is usually rather inebriated, and with that chattier and louder by the minute.

I saw it in Manchester last night, the audience around me were very well behaved. I was up with the Gods, and it wasn't that they were misbehaving as such, just more exuberant than usual. Several ladies had alcohol confiscated at the door with bag checks - coat pockets, ladies, they don't check those.

Ivecsaid this before but I reckon the further away from the stage you are, the worse the behaviour gets. If people feel disconnected from the action, they’re less likely to be absorbed by it and more likely to be tempted to do other things... talk, check phones, get pissed etc. Arenas and stadiums are the worst for it. After sitting miles away from Take That at a stadium some years ago I vowed never again. People were paying more attention to buying cider and cones of chips than watching the show.

Well, six of us there tonight and opinion ranged from “hated it” to “ok but underwhelming”. There was a brief show stop ten minutes into act 1. Technical presumably, although there’s not a lot of tech to go wrong. I don’t know if that threw them off in act 1 but it really didn’t gel. Act 2 was better but still, several things were off. I’m not going to list everything I didn't like about it but I’m not letting Joe McFadden get away with being completely underpowered in both acting, singing and fabulousness in drag and totally overshadowed by pretty much everyone else on that stage. I preferred Jason Donovan, even in the “twilight years”. Yep. #sorryaboutit I’m also not letting the ensemble, with the exception of the Divas, get away with often looking clumsy and underrehearsed. More positively Miles Western as Bernadette is excellent and Nick Hayes as Felicia is good if a bit under volume on the vocals. I know that touring version from a couple of years ago was on its arse by the end but I’d rather have seen a refreshed version of that than this remake. Too many of the iconic moments are changed and it did not benefit from it. 🧸🧸.5

In the last 24 hours I've had two recommendations for amateur productions of this. Does that mean the tour is coming to an end or are amateur groups allowed to perform this at the same time as a professional production?

This version is like it is coz they haven’t got the proper rights . Hence the different costumes etc. I saw it once and once was enough. Very cheap production and no wow factor in it what so ever. Having seen the West end version and tour countless times it’s very poor..

I saw this in Dublin last night and found it very disappointing. The jokes are, thankfully, lifted from the movie but the whole thing fell a bit flat. I thought it looked very cheap. Joe McFadden did his best but I found him mediocre. Miles Western was great as Bernadette. The choreography was not very good nor were the costumes. There were some great singers onstage but I felt a bit sorry for the cast overall. There were a few WTF moments for me.
I re-watched the movie recently and though I enjoyed it, it is quite dated; that is true of the musical also. There's a total lack of subtlety in the show, whereas there is lots of light and shade in the movie.
There was a standing ovation at the end, but I think people feel obligated or that they need to be polite; I do wonder what people really thought of it.
