I really, really hope not. Back to basics with this show please, let the story and music work its magic. No gimmick casting, no flashy ear-piercing shrieking - just a really tight show would be lovely.

No gimmick casting, no flashy ear-piercing shrieking - just a really tight show would be lovely. Amen to this. The likes of Eden Espinosa and Shoshana Bean practically rewrote NGD and DG during their runs just to show off . It doesn’t need it. Sing it well, as written; add the odd noodly bit to make yourself feel clever if need be, but please no more bored Elphabas on their twentieth run messing it about for their own entertainment. Edit: If anything needs updating it is the set and effects. Whilst I appreciate that everything is meant to be visible ( an allegory for the Wizards inability to actually do magic?) it’d be great to get Elphie flying on and off the stage at a couple of key moments, or a classic trap door stage exit. The current generation of first time Wicked-goers must think it’s so naff after what is achieved in Poppins & to an extent BTTF.

I agree, it's just self-indulgent.

Helen as Glinda has been criminally underrated until now, When I saw this at the top of the page, I thought it meant Helen Dallimore... i guess i'm showing my age!

I thought Elphaba's weren't allowed to riff, well, not without consent before hand, Yes there have been some riffs that are allowed, but no Elphaba will be trying vocal gymnastics in their first performance. It is self indulgent. Sing as written and do it well.

This is the case, requests need to be approved by the MD. any recent show that I’ve been to has had a few here and there (reopening and cast change) , but none that detract from the score.

I really liked her. 😂 Part of what confused me was the underated bit... lol She certainly had an interesting take on the part. I only saw the very first preview with the OLC and maybe it changed after that, but something was off, maybe it was because i was expecting a copy of Chenoweth and it definitely wasn't that.

Do Lucie and Helen have a show off each week? Not officially afaik, but I have a feeling they might be scheduling Amy and Charli on once a week just for now while they settle in.

I very much doubt the producers will have given Lucie and Helen the same evening off in their first week.
When they are required to take a show off in the week, such as additional show weeks over the holidays they usually separate the shows between cast members.
The crowds at stage door on Tuesday night were mental, I hope everyone is safe and well!

No I love to hear a little bit of riffing in shows as long as they can pull it off. The issue is if they try things they can't actually do and it sounds awful.

There's a great episode of the Sentimental Men podcast interviewing Julia Murney. The part about over the top riffing is hilarious.

You can’t But people do because they wanna prove they’re such HUGE fans. And I’m sure it’s very hard for actors to walk out and just ignore people.

Big mood this - you can't stage door but all the fangirls decided the rules didn't apply to them and they'd do it anyway ✌️

I've never been big into stage dooring anyway but there are signs at the theatres saying it isn't on right now. Short of the actors just living in the theatres I don't see how they can stop it but it is crazy that there are still fans insisting on doing it!

Because they have to show us how important they are and we have to know that they are friends with the cast and the show especially for them!!!!
(Sigh)
