Back in 2002 at Philip Quast's Divas at the Donmar show, he sang a song called 'He Fades Away' by Alistair Hulett. It touched me especially as at that time my Dad was very ill with cancer and "fading away". Philip mentioned that it was based on the story of an asbestos mining town in Australia called Wittenoom, where many of the workers and residents died as a result of exposure to blue asbestos. There is now a short video on the BBC website Wittenoom: An Australian Tragedy which shows very clearly the background to the song, and the many deaths that could and should have been prevented - yet another tragedy of profit over people.

Oh! I was watching this video this morning, I didn't connect it with the song, but now that I listen to it again, I don't know how I missed it!
(The whole album is on Amazon Music and HIGHLY recommended, if anyone is unfamiliar with it.)
