The late 80s Young Vic one was superb, directed by David Thacker and starring Alan McNaughton and Bob Peck. Thacker seems to have directed it three times, doing it at the Guthrie, Minneapolis in the late 90s and at the Octagon, Bolton in 2011. David Calder too. It was superb. Cant believe it was 30 years ago! |

Saw this on Saturday and loved it. Marvellous set and a very impressive cast kept the audience rapt throughout. Bath audiences can be a little oddball on occasion but thankfully there were no impromptu standing ovations when David Suchet appeared on stage. Hugely relevant themes kept the play vibrant and there were no catastrophic American accents, unlike some in the recent production of Pressure.

I mentioned here on August 19 that I had tickets for this and as things turned out I was glad I got to go. What a lovely venue the Theatre Royal Bath is.
The set for this play was quite something, but tricky to take it on the road for what would be a welcome tour wherever it stopped en route. But if there is a possibility of the production being staged at somewhere like the Wyndhams, presumably for a few months, then reconstruction of the set would be fairly straightforward and worthwhile. As for the cast, if it is as it was for Bath then it'll be a play to savour. This deserves more than just a few week-run at a regional theatre that was astute enough to see the possibilities. London would be a good location for a medium run, yet if it settled at Liverpool, Manchester, Norwich or wherever it'd surely attract good audiences for a healthy run.

A 12 week run at Wyndham theatre starting 5th Feb. DMT+ members booking now open. David Suchet and Brendan Coyle along with Adrian Lukis and Sara Stewart in the cast.

Aha, there is a thread! I was just about to start one until I found this.
I don't know the play at all, and managed to be completely oblivious to the run last summer. But I love the only other Miller I know (Death of a Salesman, obvs) and David Suchet (in Amadeus) remains one of my very strongest theatre performance memories, so I'm pretty sold on this one.
Does anyone know of any particularly good value seats? I went with someone here's recommendation of a box for Company, and it was excellent value for money. I can't see that the boxes are on sale for this, unless they've already been sold for the Saturday matinees.

The monkey nest seats up in the Balcony are very good value for money. They are the individual seats on Row A. They aren’t full seats as such so may require a bit of body twisting to get comfy. They also have limited legroom. The view through is great.

The boxes won't go on sale until previews, and nor will the front row, so you may pick up a bargain in either, @elanor . The issue in the nests is the width of the seat rather than the legroom in front for most. It's pretty narrow for the wide hipped. View is fine for the cash, but now they are one above lowest price not quite such a bargain, I always think. Back rows of the balcony are also OK. I find the C row seats deeper, D wider.
Thanks. My hips are um... not narrow! I think maybe I'll wait and see about boxes and front row! I'll have a proper look at the others too.
