Dame Emma Thompson (well deserved!)
CBE for Tom Hardy
OBE for Keira Knightley, Marianne Elliott and Fenella Fielding
MBE for Gary Wilmot and Timothy Bentinck
More broadly in the arts and broadcasting: knighthoods for Kazuo Ishiguro, Simon Scharma and the Royal Academy of Arts Chief Exec Charles Saumarez Smith, damehood for Mary Beard, CBEs for Ken Follett, Bamber Gascoigne, Kate Adie and Jeanette Winterson, OBEs for Abi Morgan and Monty Don

More prizes for privileged people doing “jobs” that most people would kill for. It should be scrapped for celebrities and politicians and just used to recognise people doing good work for their community.

I know we shouldn't take this too seriously but I'm baffled at how Tom Hardy, a second tier actor is now a CBE, one away from a knighthood!!

And what about Petula Clark. No damehood for her either. At 85 she is still touring after countless films, theatre and millions of records sold in multiple languages. Another French album just released and French Canadian tour completed.I really cannot understand how some of the names can appear on the list.

At least they gave an honour to that lovely lady who has been selling poppies for 97 years!!! That's 97. And she only plans to retire next year. The woman is 103! I have to stop for breath half way up the escalator in John Lewis and I'm nowhere near 103!! That's the Blitz spirit for you.

I never know quite what I think of such awards- I take the point people doing their dream jobs getting rewarded can feel a bit vacuous. But similarly I'm also a fan of 'hey some nice news and something to celebrate in a grey world' and many celebrities do get it for their charity work etc as much as their 'proper' jobs.
But I am thrilled for Marianne Elliott. And that her statements about it are about building up other women in the industry. And from personal experience I can say hand on heart that she practices what she preaches. And an OBE and a Tony or two (please?) in a weekend is a pretty good week too...
Also come on. I can't wait to see Emma Thompson meet a Royal and wear a batty but fabulous Thompson outfit.

Wait, I missed Bamber Gascoigne! BAMBER! I love him, and I'm so delighted he's still alive. Only Sir Henry Kelly would make me happier.
I bloody love Emma Thompson though, she's just perfect in every way.

Well it turns out I know two people in this years list....I went to school with Jess Fishlock (footballer) who is getting an MBE.
Clearly Queenie is slowly getting around to me then.

I would quibble a bit about second-tier - he has done some good stuff! - but it does seem a bit early for him. Unless he has been involved in some charity work I am unaware of - sometimes even ‘slebs turn out to have been quietly working with charities without making a fuss about it. |

Delia is already a CBE and was made an Companion of Honour last year which is higher than a knight/damehood so I'd guess she has declined a Damehood or said she doesn't want a title before her name. Julia got a long overdue CBE earlier this year too. |

The citation mentions acting only, which makes it strange. However he did get an invite to the wedding so he clearly has contacts. I just thought a CBE a bit swift. |

I'm surprised one of the UK biggest actors is being classed as second tier. His career has been going 18 years (big break I guess was black hawk down) and has done theatre (he was great in Man of Mode at the national in 2007 and where I first really discovered him), TV and film.
As mentioned he works with the prince's trust and also is involved a lot with veterans charities and the marines/military including visits out to them.
It's the first honours list in a while where they all seem pretty deserved.
Also if people think it's time certain people were nominated then you can nominate anyone yourself. If bigger names haven't been rewarded it could be due to lack of nomination or they refused it
