CALLED IT! On the one hand, I'd really like to see the artistic directorship go to someone other than a white man, but on the other hand, I'm immediately wondering if someone like Michael Longhurst would be up for it. He's a very good director, no question, but this is an AD job. Norris is a good director too (used to be, anyway). On the other hand David Lan was a poor director but a brilliant AD. |

I think it's a very smart and logical choice. He's done great work in the past few years - sometimes star-driven, sometimes not. And while I haven't liked all the plays he's done ( or even the productions for that matter) there is a solid integrity about his work that gives one hope. My only fear is that he might get distracted away by the prospect of film-making which has been a distraction for many of our top directors - Ms Rourke, Mr Grandage, Mr Cooke etc. I know the money they make from films is great, but running a building is a full time job and I hope he commits to it completely.

Gosh, he has directed stuff I’ve liked so that would be his choice of play and his direction. As they say on the tube, seen it, say it, sorted. You get my drift..

I was thinking along the same lines, no question that Michael's direction of Jake in Constellation on Broadway has elevated his career to the next level. Always nice to call in a favour.
So no chance Jake reprising his role in Little Shop of Horrors in Regent's Park then. lol

Good point, we don't know if he make a great Artistic Director. His past record is illustrious and has been successful, but now time to step up to the plate and take those armbands off, it's time to sink or swim for Michael.
On his past record I am confident he will be a proficient swimmer or I hope so.

Illustrious is a bit ott. Lets see whar his first seasons show. As JB rightly says being an AD is a big leap. |
