Celebrating Spike Milligan's 100th birthday - strangely enough he didn't turn up in person wearing a big false nose - "A Sockful of Custard" by Jeremy Stockwell and Chris Larner is a slapdash, generous tribute to the great man.
Falling somewhere between a bio and a revue, Stockwell is a convincing Milligan and Larner works hard as narrator and diverse omnes. Whilst it doesn't always hit the spot as theatre it is an enjoyable, funny evening and I doubt very much anyone who went to see this wasn't a fan of Milligan's, so there would have been plenty of goodwill and cheerful reminiscence for one and all. Not excluding me. The "fragrant Raquel" stole the show when called on stage from the audience to handle a bit of business. I have been asked to write that.
