I only live in Streatham and due to Southern longs plays are treated with contempt but if push comes to shove I can always get a bus so it could be worse.

Oh my goodness this was so bad.
Like hilariously bad.
And yet the audience were laughing their heads off.
How this man also penned THE FATHER is beyond me.
Like bad sit com, but bad bad sit com.
Alex Hanson cannot act without mouthing his scene partners lines either.
Anyone going to see it (poor you), play the game and just watch him when he's not speaking. It will give you at least something entertaining (for 10 seconds).
Wow. I need a bath.

Parsley, your new username is fooling exactly nobody.
BUT, I have to agree (up to a point). It's an odd play. The ending is so rushed and flat and odd, I left feeling short changed by the whole thing. It is also asking a lot of the audience to care about someone as horrible as Hanson's character. Tara Franks is giving the best performance of the whole thing, but is woefully underused. The real problem with the whole thing is Robert Portal, who seems to think he's in Howard's Way. He's completely disconnected from the material and the other actors, and just wanders around braying his lines like a poor man's Toby Stephens.
And yes, it's only 80 minutes, I don't know why they don't say that.

This was the equivalent of a Boots chicken sandwich - bland and unappetising. If it wasn't for the fact I hated this so much it would be as memorable as a bag of crisps.
Strange how the Menier is great at musicals but its dramas often feel like they should be running at Woking Playhouse. I still shudder at the memory of 'The Common Pursuit' several years ago.

Saw this at the Wyndams tonight. Wow what a treat! We all loved it.
I really to think that it wasn't advertised as a comedy and looked serious on the posters.
One act fabulous smart well written performed show. Go and see it people!!

An extreemly clever play this, and very funny. It does not have the depth of The Father more of a straigtforward comedy. A 90 minute roller coaster of lies, deceptions, revelations and truths - possibly! I really enjoyed it.
The performances were all excellent especialy Alexander Hanson in the lead role. The set depicting various locations was clever although I thought it looked a bit cheap. I suppose a consequence of transferring quickly from the Menier.
Recommended.

Loved this!!!! Despite starting to predict the twists - they start to form a pattern - I found this to be huge fun and Alexander Hanson works his socks off.

LOVED this at today's matinee. An hour and twenty minutes straight through. Brilliantly written, extremely funny and well acted with Alex Hanson on top form. Highly recommended!!!

Still keen to see this and was hoping it would extend, but 3 September seems to be the final day - just in case anyone else is in the same boat. I think the next production opens a week later.

Annoyed with myself that I won't be seeing this as it looks really interesting. One of those productions I thought I'd see later, and well that never happened. Looking at the DTM booking page is it only the dress circle and stalls that are open as it doesn't look that popular.

Yes, I saw it about 10 days ago from the rear stalls for £20. Stalls maybe just about 2/3 full at the matinee.
Agree Alex Hanson is great in it, but I was fairly indifferent towards the play - one of the twists I was sort of expecting from the start. Some of the language/subject matter drew an audible tut tutting from one of the older folk in my row!

Yeah I haven't heard much about it so I presumed it wasn't doing that well either. I guess it hasn't done too bad considering it was announced pretty last minute

Well, as you yourself once said, "I LOVE horrendously bad shows as much as good ones." I'm just trying to save people a few quid. It really is bad. (Whoops! I've said it again! FLAY ME!)

Actually I too would like to know that, 'cos if it's more Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps then I don't mind, but if it's more Mrs Brown's Boys then maybe I'll just have a lovely afternoon stroll instead.

Sitcom wise, I would say it's like The Good Life, but only because it has two couples in it, and only The Good Life if it had been bad, instead of good. And if you'd found no reason to engage with the characters and their supposed plights. Oh god this play was boring.
