Will Blum has not long joined the Broadway company, and while he is apparently excellent, I can't see ALW asking him to open the London show. I reckon we'll get Alex Brightman for a few months before a British Dewey takes over which will hopefully be Nathan. I cannot picture Simon Lipkin as Dewey at all, and I don't think his voice is strong enough to cope with the score. I didn't realise he was new to the company. Good point. True I don't think Simon could handle it vocally but he could do the comedy bits, funnily I think Tim is the opposite after seeing him on as Don in Kinky I think he could sing it but probably not act it. Nathan has the high rock voice with the comedy acting. I'm hoping for the Alex then Nathan combo too! Or maybe a new Brit could suprise us all.

Michael Hartley made his debut as Dewey on Broadway today, Merritt David James played it a couple of days ago, Will Blum is apparently a strong alternate, Alex Brightman's been on, Jonathan Wagner's moved on.
Was a part ever played by so many within a short time since opening? Feels v messy. I hope it means they're easing into Alex Brightman coming to London - though if he does I want to know when he's on, not this casting lottery!

Brightman doesn't do matinees on Broadway unless it's the only show that day, so any evening show should be fairly safe.

Saw SoR last night on Broadway and loved it! Did the stage door after the show and Alex Brightman said he wouldnt be coming over to London with the show but apparently he does know who has been cast...! Hopefully means an announcement should be very soon

If he knows i can see it being one of the Broadway understudies/alternates then. If it is i'm not liking the trend at the moment of getting broadways/americas 'second bests' coming over. It happens a lot with BOM, it happened with Aladdin...it potentially happens here with SOR.

Alex Brightman said he wouldnt be coming over to London with the show but apparently he does know who has been cast. Interesting... I wonder if this means that Nathan Amzi has been able to get out of his Aladdin contract? If not, perhaps they've decided to cast someone else in the meanwhile whilst Nathan finishes Aladdin.

If it was Alex would actually say so though? Not that I have any reason to believe it is but it wouldn't be the first time someone has lied about casting because they're not allowed to say anything yet.
Regardless of who it is, I hope they announce the cast soon.

It's because Brightman basically has an alternate without having an alternate. It's also a really tough role and it's been split between two guys for a while; it's just that yeah, it does look messy because the alternate thing is not "official," like, say, a Frankie Valli.

I've got tickets for this in November. I haven't seen the film, would you recommend watching it beforehand?

I really don't think it's necessary, although the movie is great and was one of my faves when I was a kid so if you're looking for a way to kill an hour and a half then give it a go. But you wouldn't have to have seen it before you see the show in order to understand it.

But the film is SO much fun anyway.
When do tickets go on sale for the London production?

I booked my ticket to School of Rock thru Seetickets when they released additional seats in the Stalls a couple of weeks ago, for a preview performance in November. The charge stayed on pending for 10 days on my credit card and then disappeared altogether. I have not been charged and I have not received the ticket. Does anyone know if that is normal practice for Seetickets?

When I booked with them for this, they ended up changing me twice and I got two sets of tickets, even though I only booked the once. The customer service was very good though and they refunded it no problem.

This is getting silly now.
Who is playing Dewey?!
When a show fresh from Broadway has slipped to the 3rd page on a dedicated musicals chat board something's going badly wrong with the launch.

I think we will find out in the next week or so. It has to be announced by the end of the month surely? Preferably the casting of Rosalie too.

I should hope so, I feel like we've been waiting for ages now. Every day for the last few weeks I've half expected an announcement.

Christopher Biggins?!!
Seriously? I suppose he could 'do a Schofield', but really...

Killian Donnelly asked at stage door last night if he's doing School of Rock and he replies to the girl with 'sshhhhhh'... not exactly the most concrete of evidence but if he wasn't, you would think he would say no. No idea how this would fit around the show in Ireland he has been cast in ? personally I don't see him fitting the role of Dewey to be honest!

Oh. Just watched a couple of YouTube clips of KD doing American standards. Not convinced by the soulfulness, high notes Or American accent. Won't bother with SOR if this is the casting. Just can't see someone wispy in the part. Guess I shouldn't have watched - and got used to - Alex Brightman in the role.
I think this is feeling like a surprising 'defeat from the jaws of victory' situation for this transfer. Not due to this casting conjecture, but a general lack of clarity in launching the show.

I wouldn't be surprised if Killian was just having a joke with fans.

Agreed, it possibly was.
I guess I should stop posting, as they've worn out any enthusiasm I had. NYC had a great narrative re the innovative Gramercy public workshop, and Alex's 'workshop deviser gets the role' story. London has nothing yet.
