Very sad to read today that Barbara Windsor has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, such a cruel disease.

Yes. Awful disease. I hope she makes the most of each day from now on.

Heartbreaking. I’m so glad now that her Eastenders chapter closed with a definitive ending.

Steve Allen was talking about this this morning. So sad to hear and very brave to go public about it I thought.

A few years ago, I had the pleasure of sitting next to her at the Donmar watching Piaf. She was delightful! Such sad news.

Even worse for me, because I am the same age as Babs.
I played for her several times in Old Time Music Hall, which she said in one of her autobiographies was the lowest point in her professional life...but I still love her!
I first saw her in 1960 in "Fings Ain't Wot They Used t'Be" (music by Lionel Bart and direction by Joan Littlewood) at the Garrick Theatre with Toni Palmer and Miriam Karlin and she was brilliant, as indeed they all were.

Well you don't act it.🤸♀️ And, obviously, she meant the Old Time Music Hall was her low point, not your accompaniment...😉🎹🎼

Yes so sad to see the news. Especially as she seems to have deteriorated recently. Lets hope the release of the news gives help to those suffering from the same illness and to those caring for them.

I hope that the decision to release the news was made freely, and not to pre-empt the publication of an invasive news story about it. There's been some very disturbing stuff emerging this week about private medical records being obtained by tabloid journalists.

It was apparently diagnosed well over 4 years ago and she was certainly in the public eye with her East Enders Final departure, getting her Damehood, her work for the Poppy Day appeals, Amy Winehouse foundation etc. over this time.
I don't know when she was last seen out and about or maybe people have questioned her absence from events she may usually attend. No doubt close friends would have known about her diagnosis but the more absent someone is, the wider circle may start to ask out of concern so it was probably decided to go public.
Sad news, our thoughts are with her and her family.

I understand from an interview with Babs' husband that she's always been happy to talk to fans and have photos taken etc but that lately she's started to question why people want her photograph and she's become a little more disorientated and anxious so rather than have her fans upset her or get upset themselves over her reaction, they've decided to pre-empt it by discussing it so that people understand if she doesn't respond in the usual Babs way. Also he said that Babs has always has a good relationship with the press and so by announcing it they hope they'll be respectful of her going forward.

Somehow this is the saddest thing of all...that there will be moments when she forgets who she is.
