They were in Moscow last week. Sold out the 6000-seat Kremlin Palace theatre for a week of shows. This was one of the most popular shows here back in 2002. And the one that started my musical theatre odissey for me when I was a schoolkid... Also: tix are waay cheaper in london then they were here, and our average salary is about £400-500 per month! Oh I see! I always wondered why Smash!! covered 'Belle'. In French. Back when Sergey Lazarev had really bad hair of course. Before he got sexy. I literally hated this cover! But in 2002 or 2003 Belle was pjsying from everywhere at any moment. I would say that it were Russians who made all these record-breaking sales but I’m not sure everyone downloaded it legally though My brother messaged me after the show with “I’m extatic. We are definitely related” message. Maybe I’ll finally make him to visit the UK to see NDdP again?

I’m interested in seeing this. I always wanted to see the aforementioned Romeo and Juliet Musical in London; did they release a CD of it in French?

I'm of french descent, and I saw the original production back in France when I was a wee child! I don't remember much of it, but it was with Garou, Ségara, Fiorio, LaVoie etc. Haven't seen it performed ever since. Kinda curious . I’m interested in seeing this. I always wanted to see the aforementioned Romeo and Juliet Musical in London; did they release a CD of it in French? Did they perform out of France? (I only moved to the UK about 3 years ago) I remember listening to the original production cd so much that I had to buy a new one, as it ended up so scratched lol

I'm definately intrigued to see this, however the last time I went to a show with subtitles I was 16, and with the english subtitles it was too distracting I lost what was happening on stage, but then on stage was greek so I didn't understand what was going on there either. We ended up bringng out the bottle of wine we snuck in and had a right giggle.
With that in mind, the best person to take to this show is clearly @ryan. 😂😂

I suspect no great words of wisdom will be said by the subtitles. Go and just let it wash all over you

This is a musical I'd like to see. I lived overseas when it was at the Dominion so never got to see it but I did have the French recording on minidisc and really liked the music. Minidiscs, strange little things weren't they. Still have all my minidiscs & recorder alece10

Oh God, I couldn’t be arsed. In French too..not enough hours in the day. 😉 I think it works better in French . . . or Russian . . . or any other language I don’t understand so don’t have to suffer the heavy clunk of every rhyming couplet that was shouted out across the Dominion stage.... Hope they keep the bit where the priest gets followed around the stage by some obedient pillars while having a (very loud) breakdown

A grand spectacle sure, with some big sings but ultimately hollow.

Of course, what I REALLY want is for someone to bring in a production of STARMANIA... Me too! Saw Notre Dame at the Dominion and fell in love with Garou's gravelly voice. Then saw him in concert in Montpellier. Bliss.

The visuals carry most of the storytelling, and while the French lyrics are vastly better than the English ones (not difficult), it's not exactly Sondheim. It's not as if you'll miss some sophisticated layer of meaning if you don't get every word.

Céline's covers of those songs are OK - Céline is usually better in French - but for my money she's bland compared to Luce Dufault or Maurane. I saw Ms. Dufault play the role in Paris years ago, and have been playing that album ever since, and it was as thrilling a vocal performance as I've ever heard in a theatre (she's not much of an actress, though):

Is this a good idea or not.....only a few performances. It's never been on my list, but heck, it's here, give it a go.

Yes. I saw it in Geneva and was thoroughly entertained. Plus, Hiba Tawaji belts Vivre unlike her predecessors.

Saw the original UK version at the Dominion and loved the show. Usual French musical with lots of running from side to side but very enjoyable! Go see it I am sure your will enjoy!
