I'm not a fan of Eva Noblezada, though, alas. Neither am I, but maybe she'll do better work in a show with a good director. You know, as opposed to Laurence Connor, whose skills as a director appear to begin and end with preventing actors from colliding with scenery.

Does anyone know if you need to bring anything to collect tickets from the box office? Hoping to book a concession ticket, however, by the time the show comes around I would have already just turned 18 so wondered if I needed proof of identification.

You can definitely get by with just your booking confirmation if you're booking a standard ticket. However, if you're booking a concessionary ticket, you'll probably need to take evidence that you qualify for the concession. I presume you're looking to buy an under-18 ticket? The NT's FAQ states that these tickets cannot be posted out and must be collected from the box office within 90 minutes of the performance. Although it doesn't state that proof of age will be required, the fact that you have to collect your ticket in person on the day of the performance does at least imply that they could ask. You could gamble - turn up three minutes to curtain and hope they can't be bothered checking, or apologise for having left your ID at home but one look at your face should convince them you're a child, or show them your ID with confidence and remorsefully explain you thought 18 year olds were included, or even point out that the FAQ doesn't state you needed to bring your ID - but I think if you've turned 18 by the date of the performance, then strictly speaking you're not really entitled to an under-18 ticket rate. FAQ: www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/help-centre/ticketsIf you have reasonable flexibility and you want a low cost ticket, you'd be better off hanging out on the NT website and waiting for returns, or getting involved with the Friday rush. Just as much of a gamble, but a fairer one than trying to claim a concessionary rate that isn't really yours anymore. (Also, have you looked into Entry Pass? I expect the Hadestown Entry Pass tickets will be long gone, but it's worth checking, and if you have that option open to you, then if any Entry Pass tickets get returned, you'll get dibs where an ordinary person wouldn't.)

I'll be returning a £15 front stalls ticket for the matinee on Saturday 17 November if anyone is interested? Annoying that though that performance is all but sold out and I'm sure my ticket will promptly be re-sold,the NT will charge me a £2 fee.

I would certainly have taken it but annoyingly am on holiday that day! Still trying to find a cheap-ish ticket for this as I wasn't organised enough when they went on sale - may have to be dayseats or Friday rush!

It is, but my point is that they should have no difficulty re-selling it so aren't taking much of a risk by taking it back. Whereas had it been an expensive ticket for one of their many recent turkeys, they might well have been stuck with it. Plus if they must charge a fee, a percentage would be fairer but hands up, I did know the policy; what I didn't know is that my op date would have to be brought forward.

Not yet, no; I was in London yesterday so double-checked with the Box Office about the £2 fee but I won't back there for the next fortnight and am not in a rush. I never collect the ticket itself until the day for precisely this reason so provided we could work out how to do it, you'd be welcome.

Will report back! @posterj it's worth keeping regular tabs on the website as I managed to get a £29 returned seat during the week. Also Friday mid-afternoon there were still a number of rush tickets available for multiple performances on the NT website.

I actually have nothing bad to say about this. Loved the set (simple but very effective), the music is just perfect, and the performances very good too. It’s been a long while since I’ve come out of the Olivier loving a production and I could easily go straight back in and see it again. I’m not sure the praise love was felt by everyone in the audience looking at the curtain call response, but I for one found it pretty spot on.

Saw the first preview last night and this is sensational. Can't remember the last time I've left the National and immediately wanted to see the show again. Its such a clever, contemporary retelling of the Orpheus story in the time of Trump, climate change, the growth of populism etc - but those are all implied rather than overt. The lyrics and the music are awesome - with an extra incredible injection of New Orleans style jazz. All the performances are sensational - Andre de Shields rocks as Hermes , Patrick Page channels Tom Jones as Hades and Amber Gray is pure sparkle as Persephone. Great use of the rotating stage. It runs 2'30 and make sure you stay for the encore .

Hello, saw it last night. Very good. I would give it four stars. Eva Noblezada (Eurydice) has a similar voice to Anais Mitchell and was well cast and did a good job. Patrick Page has a deep, gruff voice and was perfect as Hades. I have heard the CD, not the cast recording, and the songs have been put in a different order to fit the story better. The music was first class and so were the backing singers (the fates). Just about the best show I have seen at the NT in a long time. Good use was made of the drum revolve. There was lots of smoke in one scene which spilled over into the first couple of rows. Got a standing ovation and the end, it finished at about 10.10. but then had an encore. It helps to know the story of Orpheus and Eurydice I remembered it from seeing Orpheus in the Underworld at the ENO years ago, that was also a great show. This would be a good show to take youngsters to introduce them to theatre going.

Ah glad others had the same thoughts as me. I thought it was a mixed response at the curtain call with so many dashing straight out but perhaps that was the curse of it running 15 minutes over the advertised running time.

Saw this tonight and really enjoyed it! I can see why it was so popular. Ended with half standing ovation. I was sitting in the circle D34 and felt like the view was great. There was only one moment where I saw backstage. I've included spoiler tags just in case. They give out a free cast list. The programme (£4.50) contains the usual stuff plus a guide to characters, interview with the orchestrators, and some mythology discussion. Agree with previous comments, really liked the staging. Creative use of the turntable. Use light to great effect, warning for flashing lights is apt. Particularly effective in doubts come in. Excellent number! I came into this musical completely blind, haven't heard either of the albums, and deliberately didn't listen to them beforehand. I booked on the positive word of mouth. I'm quite interested to see if my opinion changes at all after listening to the recordings. Reeve Carney was a bit meh for me. I really didn't enjoy his voice in the first act and just about warmed to it in the second. I was interested to hear Eva Noblezada live as I had an understudy when I saw les mis. She has a powerful voice, definitely distinctive. Weirdly not sure if I enjoyed her performance - can't quite put my finger on why. I adored Amber Gray and Andre de Shields as Persephone and Hermes respectively. With Amber you could tell she owns this role and has a lot of fun with it. Musically really really good. Particularly enjoyied ensemble stuff. LOVED the fates! Their Acapella song was potentially the highlight of the night for me. Especially shout out to Katie. Also great job from David Neuman on their choreography in particular. Their physicality was great. Didn't notice anything special vocally for Seyi Omooba but she was my favourite dancer right from the beginning. Definitely was poignant and relevant. Particularly obvious with the audience reaction after Why we build the wall (Lyrics included in the programme) Overall definitely glad I booked a ticket for this! Will certainly be checking out more of Anais Mitchell's work as the music was truly wonderful.
