"Simon Spier keeps a huge secret from his family, his friends, and all of his classmates: he's gay. When that secret is threatened, Simon must face everyone and come to terms with his identity."
As the screening I attended early yesterday (Sat) evening was pretty busy, even at West End prices, I'm guessing others on here will have seen this or plan to, so I'm starting my first film thread in ages.
As reviewers have said, it's a very amiable and good-natured film and I did enjoy it but found the whole set-up and development ridiculously unrealistic. I will however say that all other audience members seemed to be 30 - 40 years younger than I am so I am sure I was not in the target demographic.

I thought this was perfect in what it was trying to achieve - a mainstream teen comedy made by a mainstream studio for a mainstream audience where the lead protagonist just happens to be gay.
I went to see it expecting it to be cheesy, but thought it managed to tread the line perfectly. The technique used as Simon tries to work out who Blue is was well put together and never felt obvious.
At my age I don’t think I’m the target demographic either, but I ended up loving it despite its obviousness. And it’s an important film so I hope it’s a huge success. To put its importance in perspective, it has opened in more US cinemas than Call Me by Your Name and Moonlight combined.

A lovely little film with great performances from all of the young cast. I was happy to see it on Friday in a busy screening and a very diverse audience.
I thought Simon’s family set up was just a little too schmaltzy and perfect, but I suppose an idealistic outcome is needed at times on screen.

I really enjoyed it. Thought it was very sweet and well done.
The jarring part was the gigantic houses for me, given the ordinary cars and clothes the kids had.

Went to a preview of this a few weeks ago and instantly fell in love with it. There were so many scenes that were pretty much an exact replica (almost word for word) of moments in my teenage years when I was discovering my sexuality and preparing to come out.
Really nice film, and I’m so glad it’s getting s lot of attention and such a wide release.

I too caught a preview of this a few weeks ago with my cousin (17 years my junior) who was visiting from Australia and we too both enjoyed it.
I found he scenes where Simon's friends were outing themselves as straight quit amusing as (unbelievably) a couple of years ago a work colleague did exactly that!
But I thought it was well acted and the subject matter dealt with great sensitivity.

I went to see this film today. I found out about it a few weeks ago and I knew the original book was in my school library so I got it out and read it over Friday and Saturday before seeing the film tonight, so I knew from the get go who Blue would be, but I liked the way they displayed this on screen.
Some changes from the book, as is expected in film adaptations, but an enjoyable film.

Not necessarily about the film as such but last week when I was in London, they had a small Ferris wheel set up in Leicester Square with the branding for the film on the outside of it, including a small photo opportunity that indicated that someone from the cast would be there for photos at some point in the day. Did anyone else see this or go to it ? Is it relevant to the film or just a small advertising opportunity ?

I'm glad so many people have already seen and liked this (and mischievously delighted by n1david's comments re Call Me By Your Name and Moonlight, as I disliked both) but please, fellow members, do start a thread when you see a film! Especially since it turns out that some of you saw this weeks ago, though giving you the benefit of the doubt, I'm sure someone would have taken the plunge in due course.

A Ferris wheel is featured in the trailer, so it's not really a spoiler to say one is featured. The only person I think would be viable to meet for a photo opp would be Nick Robinson who plays Simon. I suppose potentially the girl who plays his best friend, but she's mostly famous for being the lead in 13 Reasons Why

Ditto, ellie1981, which is why I try to guess which ones to post about, and I got it wrong with The Square, but there is clearly considerable interest in this one, hence my urging others to start threads too.

This was super! I kept myself from spoilers too so was genuinely surprised at the end.

Having watched this tonight, I thought it was a great film with a very positive message. Nick Robinson as Simon gave a terrific performance and I loved the I Wanna Dance With Somebody song moment, Cheesey, but funny. I thought Natasha Rothwell as the drama teacher was fantastic and her scene in the school canteen shutting down the bullies was well done. The scene at the end where Simon finally meets Blue was well done and actually quite emotional. I’m definitely getting this to keep on dvd.

I've got my DVD and I still think it's fabulous. I saw it in the cinema and it made me cry then and still does now. One of my memorable parts in the cinema last year was when the identity of Blue was revealed. There was audible gasps and applause when it was revealed at the screening I went too, it felt electric. Watching it a second time, the identity of Blue does become slightly more obvious on a second viewing, but that is the fun if some films. Really love this film. Nick gives amazing performances, but the performances of Jennifer and Josh as the parents shouldn't be sidelined, I think both are fabulius, especially Jennifer's "it's OK to be you" speech. Love it!
