First of Finborough’s season of plays written in 1868. Based on this it might not have been a vintage year. It is a short comedy structured almost as a melodrama with some faint distant echoes of comedy of manners plays. For people familiar with the genre the plot twists are entirely predictable. Well-acted and 100 minutes running time so no complaints.
