More when I get home, but I saw it this afternoon and I loved it.
Outside Scotland, though, I don't know whether it has the potential to be a big commercial hit, although I will certainly be seeing it at the Old Vic next year.

I saw it again yesterday evening SF, and it's great to see the little tweaks that have been made since the first performance. I like the ending which is a lot tighter now, and somebody seems to have finally been allowed to turn the volume up a little on the band! I know what you mean - will something so Scottish be commercially successful... Well, the same could have been said about the film (didn't set the cinema box offices on fire but very successful for home rental/purchase). I just like to say new and different theatre, and Local Hero is unique in that sense. I hope that it flies!

I’m hoping for a return to the Lyceum at some point, as I really enjoyed it when I saw it and I won’t get another chance to see it this run.

I know what you mean - will something so Scottish be commercially successful... Actually, I don't think the fact that it's Scottish has much to do with whether or not it'll be a big commercial hit. It's a relatively subtle, quirky show, it doesn't have a succession of great big production numbers or a big emotional hook - it's nowhere near as manipulative as something like Billy Elliot - and it doesn't have either a conventionally happy ending or the kind of melodramatic/tragic conclusion that sends the audience out on a wave of tears. I think it's good - really good - but it's not the kind of show that's likely to run for years in the West End. |

I second that - and I speak as someone who travelled from Kent to see it. Shame it couldn't be found an earlier slot at the Old Vic and very glad I made the trip.

Me too - I'm fortunate in being able to split my time between London and Scotland and have seen this fantastic production a couple of times now in its short run. I'll be there on Saturday because I love the show and think the cast have done a brilliant job bringing such a superb story to life on stage. |

I’m at Rock of Ages on Saturday but I kind of want to blow it off to go to the last matinee of Local Hero, as I worry it won’t come back to Edinburgh for a while.

I stood in a box with a rubbish view for one performance. It was still great. I still think it will do a run at Edinburgh again before or after the Old Vic. Would be crazy not to play to a home crowd again! |

Final performances today of the best new show this year by far. If you've missed it, you can book tickets for next summer at the Old Vic. "Cheerio, away you go..."

For those who are interested, the long awaited blu ray of the fantastic film that spawned the equally fantastic musical will be released on 2nd September in the UK. End of September in the USA.

Has anybody seen the seatplan for "Local Hero" at the Old Vic? Looks like at least three rows removed with a few scattered seats here and there... Are they bringing the beach down into the audience? Or creating a ceilidh zone? Or recreating the sea? Or are they just undecided on configuration? I'd welcome anybody's views on what might be happening...

A to D are not on sale, otherwise it is the usual standard layout for the moment. What they do with the front four rows remains to be seen. Though looking at the seating plan for LH, there are odd seats here and there on the sides in rows B, C and D... I'm wondering if the Old Vic stage will be extended outward to bring the action forward - I'm also wondering if the band will still be hidden behind the screen at the back or whether they will get better positioning - I'm wondering if they can't do a "Come From Away" and place the band onstage but to the side. Seems to be the fashion these days. |

They sometimes appear on the system for some reason. Not on sale, may just be there for a technical system requirement. Won't know more for a while. Thanks for clarifying Theatremonkey - I'm letting my imagination run away with me as this show is so fantastic and I can't wait to go and see it again. |

If you like the film or Mark Knopfler, you'll love this show. Once won't be enough. I spent a lot of time and money in Edinburgh last March/April and never regretted it once. I took my two daughters to see it and they said it was one of the best things they've ever seen (and they've seen alot for their years). |

Like ceebee I made the long trip (from Kent) to Edinburgh last April to see Local Hero and it was worth every penny and rail mile. I haven't booked yet for the Old Vic as I always wait till they do the £10 promotion in case I get lucky but will definitely see it again a couple of times. It captures the mood of the film really well and there are some great musical numbers. |

Will need to try and give it another visit to see any changes they’ve made from Edinburgh, as it really is a beautiful show.

I did note that Damian Humbley retweeted an Old Vic tweet for Local Hero - I would hope he returns as I think he was excellent as Mac. I liked Katrina Bryan as Stella, though I think Melissa Allan would also be great in the role. |

I'm surprised this is being discounted already. From The Box Office has "£78" (£65 really) seats in stalls from row E backwards reduced to £40 for June/July performances. Looking at the Old Vic website there's no availability in rows A - D there so E may be the front row.
