That's a pity that you couldn't see the astronomical clock. I looked it up and apparently it should be back this summer. Great reason to go back to Prague though! 👍

We did the Old Town free walking tour, which lasts like 3 hours. I'd totally recommend it. I second that, the free walking tour in Prague is great!

Can anyone recommend a good suitcase that complies with cabin luggage size guides (namely EasyJet). I'm not a big traveller at all (something I'm hoping to improve on) but am planning a trip up to Edinburgh soon and decided flying will be the cheapest and easiest way to get there, don't particularly want to check in a bag as I'll only be going for 2 nights.

The It luggage range is great. The small suitcase is about £28 and is very light, plus it's got 4 wheels so doesn't fall over. I travel on EasyJet quite a lot as my parents live outside the UK so this case is just what I needed.

My mistake, it's actually got 2 wheels but it's still stable. It's called "it luggage world's lightest cabin 2 wheel suitcase".

ensembleswings Amazon is a good place to browse for suitcases as you can read the reviews and they have many different brands available. I'm used to buying Samsonite but must admit that the quality has gone down over the years. Their new suitcases don't compare to my old ones. Now I have reminded myself of this Gossip Girl quote 😂

I'm happy to hear you had a great time @eldermillan! Do you have any tips for first time visitors? I want to visit Prague soon too. 😃 Thanks! Well, St Vitus Cathedral is a must! It is so beautiful. Excellent views from Charles Bridge, over the Vltava River. We did the Old Town free walking tour, which lasts like 3 hours. I'd totally recommend it. We had dinner at Cafe Louvre. It looks like a posh restaurant and you would think it's a very expensive place, but it's totally affordable and the food is exquisite! Stupartska Restaurant is also a great option; try the Goulash soup! I would have loved to see the astronomical clock but unfortunately they are refurbishing the tower. I ate at Cafe Louvre on my first visit to Prague last December, and I agree with your assessment of it @eldermillan. Affordable, comfortable, very pleasant service and excellent food.

Café Louvre is noted. 👍 I'm planning to go to Prague and Copenhagen at the end of this summer, might as well combine both cities in one trip. Would 3 full days and 4 nights be enough for a first visit of Prague or should I add a day? My flight arrives in the evening so the first night is wasted, which is a pity.
Before that I have Italy booked for June, I like to go there every year. The culture, the language, the sights, the fashion, the food and the weather... I love it all!

You should give Bedford a try one year instead. It has all those, except maybe the weather, and it's only 35 minutes by train from London.

Before that I have Italy booked for June, I like to go there every year. The culture, the language, the sights, the fashion, the food and the weather... I love it all! Three full days for a first visit will be good , you won’t see everything even if you have longer, there’s so much to see . I was very lucky , my flight was so early I was in the city by 10am and didn’t leave until evening, so it gave me an extra couple of sightseeing days . I stayed in a beautiful apartment overlooking the river in the Smichov area, easy to walk to the castle or old town areas , with some lovely cafes and restaurants nearby, plus a Tesco . Good tip : the best way to get from the airport to the city is by bus, which takes you to a metro stop , then by metro to the city . It’s amazingly cheap (about £1.10, yes £1.10!!) and easy to negotiate. There are two different bus/metro line routes from the airport , depending where in the city you are staying , but if you look it up online before you go it’s easy to find the best one for you. There’s a transport information desk in the airport arrivals hall where you can buy your tickets and get information. The Loreta monastery and church (a short walk from the castle entrance ) is well worth seeing (don’t miss the treasury , it’s upstairs from the cloisters ). Also I enjoyed coffee and cake in the wonderfully ornate art nouveau Municipal House . Can’t wait to go back .

Thank you very much bimse! Those are all helpful tips and it's great to hear how much you enjoyed Prague. I have booked a hotel in the old town. I think 3 days is a good start, then I can spend each day exploring a different part of the city. Yes, good arrival and departure times can add 2 extra days and that's a lot!

That sounds lovely, I have added Bedford to my travel list! 😄 As someone who has lived in Bedford most of his life I can safely advise: it’s almost definitely not worth the trip! (Nothing to do with the Italian community)

I’m going to Oslo for a conference in June, and I was wondering if anyone had been recently, and if anyone has any recommendations? Am travelling with a four year old so some kid friendly stuff would be good. I hear the museums are all very good?

Take a look at the Oslo Pass and what it gets you into and then maybe see if that's suitable for kids - I'd get one as it gives you free local travel in Oslo.
I went to the Fram, Viking Boat, Kon Tiki on the Ferry and also used the tram out to the ski jump and whilst in town went to the art gallery, natural history museum and the reptile house.
Lovely town - word of advice if flying, take the local train instead of the designated airport service.

I was there a few years ago - can't comment on the kid friendliness of any of this but remember these all being good:
The Viking Ship Museum / Fram Museum / Kon Tiki Museum - all quite close together on the Bygdoy Peninsula. Oslo Opera House - didn't go and see anything here but it's an amazing building - you can go for a stroll starting at ground level and end up on the roof of the building Astrup Fearnley Museet - modern art museum, another amazing building in a great waterfront location
I'd also recommend doing a boat tour of the archipelago.

This is brilliant advice. I’d read that Oslo doesn’t tend to have “things for kids” as they like to include some good children’s things into the main museums and galleries to make them suitable for families. Cannot say how much I have the Norwegians on a pedestal!
I think Oslo was 4th on a list of most expensive cities last week. Any tips on the best way to eat without blowing the bank? We’re in a hotel rather than an air bnb so we are going to be eating out for all meals.

It is expensive - as with most of Scandinavia alcohol in particular is incredibly expensive. So the best way of eating out cheaply would be not to drink booze while you're out there!

On Scandinavia I remember a few years back going into a café in Stockholm for a coffee and a cake and it was £16 each. No prices were displayed but it was nice! Just as well.

I remember being in Oslo in the 80s and being SO pleased to see a McDonalds. The only time I’ve been pleased to see a McDonalds. Not for the food but because it was affordable fodder. (Still WAY more expensive than at home...) I don’t think prices ever come down, do they...? Top tip: Start your Spring Detox-cum-Diet from the minute you get off the plane...

Regarding expensive cities, if you can have breakfast included at the hotel that already would be a good start. Then an option is to make lunch your biggest meal of the day. Since the lunch menu is often cheaper than the dinner one, even if it's the same food.

I visited Oslo 6-7 years ago. One night we decided to treat ourselves and go out for dinner... After having a look, we ended up at Burger King. That city is bloody expensive!
