Just come home from tonights Les Mis show and the Understudy for Javert was honestly the most incredible Javert I've ever seen in my entire life! His acting was just absolutely amazing! His name is Shaq Taylor so be sure to watch out for him! I can't wait to see Shaq as Javert. That first moment I saw him onstage as Prouvaire / ensemble I was like... oh he is going to be an amazing Javert. Hoping he is still on on Monday when I go.

Honestly he was so incredible, I never really was interested in the Javerts but this time I was obsessed! Way more amazing than killian as 24601 imo - so in love!!

Is Shaq on as Javert on Mondays? Isn't that the same night as Adam Bayjou as Valjean?

Shaq is on for Javert again tonight. I don't think there is an alternate/set show a week for a Javert cover like there is with Valjean, just normal understudy duties.

Only the alternate Valjean has a set day.
But when Hayden was last at Mis he was off ill a fair few times and one of them I remember because I got Lee as Javert who I loved as Javert.

I saw Les Mis yesterday and thought Shaq Taylor was a very good Javert cover. But clearly way too young for the role! Which is why I'm posting - I can't stand how young they cast the show these days: I remember seeing the likes of Edward Baruwa and Gary Watson playing Enjolras and Marius - men, probably 25-30 at the time. Now they're children and their voices child-like. It just. Doesn't. Work. Valjean and Javert could easily have been students!

Oh hang on . . .

My first Marius & Enjolras were Jon Robyns & David Thaxton. The last pair I saw looked & sounded like members of a teenage boyband!

I find the solution to ever younger casting is to sit in the gods without a pair of opera glasses!!

Casting has been going this way for years, sadly.
Fresh faced kids out of uni are great for producers, they;
- cost less - can be moulded easier - are in CamMac's stable of performers - often share agents, keeping fees low - can be easily disposed and replaced by a new graduate each year to repeat the process
Remember the "matinee idols" poster campaign with Oliver Thornton? All the students were uni leavers, pretty much.
For what it's worth, my first were Paul Manuel (older and magnificent) and Hadley Fraser (young and also superb)

I think if we were to go with casting according to the character's age, Marius and Enjolras should be young and in their early 20s. TBH I don't know how old they are in the book, but aren't they supposed to be students anyways?

The last one I can recall like that was, erm... Ramin?

Hi. I'm really sorry if this has been asked before but are there 'Day seats' available for Les Mis. If so are these limited? Thank you

Thank you

Do you miss much and any idea how many places they allocate? Thank you I've stood twice before (I think!), both times at the back of the Dress Circle, very decent indeed!! Though I do believe there are standing spaces at the back of every level. In the D/C, the top of the stage is cut off by the upper circle overhang, but actually I don't really recall any huge obstructions to the set, in fact I think it's a pretty clear 'letterbox' view. However, you do get FoH walking across you every now and again. Of course it's not the shortest of shows to be standing for, but if you can handle it, I found the experience no less enjoyable than when I was sitting!

Do you miss much and any idea how many places they allocate? Thank you The standing is back of each seating level. Upper circle your view has no obstructions but you are the far away from the stage. You also have a leaning post great if you need something to lean on. Dress is much closer but you are on the same level as the back seat row. If you are short like meecan be difficult to find a spot to stand first and not have someone tall.sit right in front of you. You miss a bit of the barricade stuff. Stalls you can see the stage clearly however you miss all of the top of the barricade and even bending down wont resolve it. For the Upper and Dress its 12 places each I think. For the stalls it's only 6. Stalls I think is the only standing places the Queens box office will sell if the show is sold out. I get my standing from TKTS now.

Finally got around to watching the Les Mis movie, what a load of rubbish! The amount of mumbling, half-hearted lines delivered to the floor and notes cut short is appalling. They should have got Peter Lockyer and Jeremy Secomb in to teach the Hollywood stars what actual belting is Hugh Jackman, Samantha Barks and Amanda Seyfried are good, Eddie Redmayne is alright, not a fan of Russell, Anne, Helena or Sacha at all though. I know we've been spoiled in the West End these past few years (well, decades) but Stars should NEVER sound like that.

He's just about to release an album. I kid you not!

I've just learnt that Danny Mac once played Gavroche! I wonder if I saw him? I don't seem to be able to find any pictures. (Oh, and his wife is currently playing Fantine...)

She is in the show today (someone posted the cast board to me). According to her Spotlight page she is u/s Factory Girl and Assistant dance captain now. Which means Jo Loxton must have left already and I assume Oli Brenin is now the Dance Captain.
