I once saw Stars In Their Eyes recorded at Granada and it took so long I was ready to murder someone by the end. I agree with Tibbles though, real proper telly professionals have something ordinary people don’t have. Matthew Kelly has the audience eating out of his hand despite us all being well pissed off. Yeah not a big fan of Forsyth but saw Play Your Cards Right filmed. Brucie did the warm up and was really good from this point all the way through two show recordings. In my shows both failed to win the jackpot and car on the turn of the last card. Both times the audience cheered but when I saw the re-run on tv there was the more traditional groan from the audience. Was that the same with Stars in Their Eyes? Did the production team add the applause or did the audience applaud when they come out and sing the first line

I am looking forward to the return of Dancing On Ice. Watched all the past series and went to a few of the tours so will be interesting to see if there are any changes.

I'm also looking forward to the return. I used to watch it in favour of Strictly years ago and even went to see it on tour in Wembley. Remember Bonnie Langford, Chris Fountain and Ray Quinn as some of the best celebs on it. Hoping some of the original pros are back.

I do remember it all being filmed out of sequence, and being required to “perform” as an audience by fake pressing our voting buttons, and applauding enthusiastically at nothing while we were filmed. There were a couple of repeat performances aswell, because of tech hitches on the first attempt by the contestant so you had to listen to it all again. Christ it was heavy going. Things may have moved on now but there was a LOT of smoke and mirrors going on. I’ve never been tempted to go back and see anything else, despite media city being so close these days. Rather see it on the telly!

Hopefully this will improve as the series progresses but tonight it was far too long and padded out just to see six couples skate.

warm-up bloke made half hearted attempts to get our circulation going, but the wonderful Andy Collins he most certainly wasn't, and limp 'jokes' about his hamster learning to drive and falling asleep at the wheel made our very own Monkey seem like Eric Morecambe! He wanted material "cheap" so I just sold him the stuff I don't use, OK? Caveat Emptor and all that. I wouldn't be surprised if Caveat Emptor turns out to be another judge/presenter. Jordan Banjo?...surely not.....

There were a lot of ad breaks which were quite annoying. I guess the same will happen next week then it should settle down more once they all perform in the same programme. I enjoyed it and liked the new set/ice rink. I thought Jake was certainly the best and seemed very confident bordering on cocky but that's what is needed to be confident on ice. Really surprised they paired Candice with Matt Evers as she isn't going to last long and he is one of the most recognisable pros. I think it will be a similar case next week with Cheryl Baker and Dan. Thought Hamish one of the new pros is going to be quite exciting with some great choreography.

I downloaded it from ITV hub and there are NO ADS!!!
I've only skim-watched so far to see how they slotted us in - all the bits up until the judges' entrance were recorded on Friday, including the titles, which we thought was a group dance! Almost all the audience shots up until then are from afar due to our heavy coatage. Apparently the roof had blown off during Storm Eleanor, which is why they weren't ready or heated. It also explains the windows that were lying around right next to where we were queuing for security.
Jason's score for Perri is interesting. She was far and away my favourite in the studio - I'm not sure she came across quite so well on the telly, but she skated very fast and securely and was absolutely sublime in her shaping. I was delighted with Jason's score for her.
Stupid shouty commentator needs to go. He was there on Friday and briefly introduced to us - he did a bit of commentary as well, but we were comatose by then and didn't really notice. He is totally ruining proceedings, sounding like a shouty football pundit.

Really didn't like the commentator either, just seemed like he didn't want to be there and added next to nothing to the skating/dancing

Yes totally agree about the commentator. Hope the series picks up after these first 2 shows. It doesn't seem as good as the original series.

Commentator is apparently a chap called Matt Chapman, he is from ITV racing, the betting ring guy - think John McCririck minus the eccentricity and misogyny. But still a prat IMO.
Why not have Robin Cousins who hasn't returned as Head Judge as Jane and Chris are doing that role to do it. He has done a lot of commentary before and knows the show or Nicky Slater a former judge and very good commentator.

It would appear the commentator's job is now vacant.
Anyone got any suggestions for his replacement?

Simon Read did it after Tony Gubba died so may be up for coming back. But with Winter Olympics next month a lot of commentators will be pre-booked for that. They can easily find a decent sports presenter who knows a bit about skating and can swat up but do they want entertainment factor too.

I don't remember Simon Read - which must mean he was ok lol!
Serious suggestion from me - how about Beth Tweddle? She commentates a bit in gymnastics and also as a previous contestant has some serious credentials n'est pas?

Simon Reed ( got spelling wrong initially) does a lot of commentary on Eurosport mainly Tennis but has covered skating before as well as Basketball on Channel 4 in the 1980's. He took over from Tony Gubba when Tony had to step down shortly before he died in 2013 and then commentated on all 2014 series.
Simon is also the younger brother of the late legendary hellraiser Oliver Reed.
The suggestion of Beth replacing Matt Chapman who is a horse racing presenter made me cruelly think when during an online chat she was asked "Who was riding her in the Grand National" due to her impressive gnashers.

Apparently the new commentator is Sam Matterface from talksport. Yes that is his real name! He couldn't be any worse than the last one and is more pleasing on the eye too!

I was an avid fan of DOI (note past tense), but I thought the first show last week was dreadful. After 20 minutes we had only seen one couple skate. I'll be recording it from now on, I think.

Last week's show did drag on and they didn't have any extra interactions like they used to from Chris and Jayne when they were mentors. No mention either of who the coaches were - before Karen Barber used to be heavily featured.
Sam is a very experienced sports commentator and should hopefully be more what Tony Gubba was like and less of a glorified cheerleader that Matt Chapman seemed to be,
He was married to the gorgeous Natalie Sawyer from Sky Sports.
Wonder if there is any update on Donna Air's missing Geordie accent.

Well, I have a favourite 3 (which is 3 more than I did in Strictly this year.) Perri, Max and Alex are the ones to watch for me - Max was amazing with those lifts in week 1.
I also liked Donna and I thought Mark had choreographed a lovely routine.
So they replaced the commentator who yelled with a commentator who merely shouted. Okaaaaaay... (but a definite improvement.)
It looks like it's still freezing in the studio.
Jordan was less nervous this week and more like the Jordan we saw at dress rehearsal - he was a bit stilted last week I thought. And someone's obviously had a word with Jayne (and written her a script...bless!)
I was really surprised (and pleased) that they kept Lemar - he was definitely less practised than Candice but if T&D say his skating was better who am I to disagree? I didn't like his partner much, though I do appreciate she's not had a good time of it so far.
The confusion when they couldn't hear who was saved and who was in the dance-off was embarrassing. I hope they get it sorted.
Someone needs to gag Jake, Kem and Anthony. Please. Very please. Oh, and Brooke whilst they're at it.

Just caught up with last night's show. Vast improvement in the commentator. What I don't understand is why they have put Dan and Matt with two of the weakest skaters

There are far too many adverts in this, ruins the flow of the show (so glad I recorded it so I could flick through). Overall I'm not as impressed by the celebrities as in previous years (though it's early days) and I'm not a fan of the new shape ice rink.

The second episode was much better than the first, partly because of the change of commentator and partly due to the absence (apart from the group number) of Antony Cotton.
Alex and Brianne were the standout couple for me this week. Really nice routine from Donna and Mark too.

Hopefully it will improve further when all the contestants skate in one programme with less padding.
The programme does not need the "backstage" area interviews or the awful "group" dances.
The audience were very unnecessarily noisy and should be told to be quiet! The results were a shambles because of this and the fact that the contestants could not hear the results. It looked shambolic!
Plus of course the programme suffers from not seeing T&D on ice!
SO if any of the producers are reading this and implement the above I will expect payment as executive consultant/director!
