Tempted to give up starting film threads as either no-one else goes to see the film, or everyone loves to bits what I thought was decent but undistinguished - which is obviously fine; just a bit repetitive.
So one last try: OH & I saw this yesterday (best part possibly the ticket price: only £4.99 7 days per week - wow!) and quite enjoyed it. However, I didn't like the cinematography, though that must have been a directorial decision.

I saw a preview showing of this a month ago so am surprised it is just out now.
I enjoyed it and it is wonderfully acted but I can't see people flocking to see it.

I was in Paris last week and this was being really heavily promoted. Posters on every street corner. I’d never heard of it.
£4.99 is what our Vue charges. It’s taken over from a Odeon. Much more reasonable.

Yes, thus was the Vue at the Lowry, Salford - though Vue prefer for some reason to list it as "Manchester". Little interest from the cinema: staff claimed it wasn't a "big" release & said no-one had booked, yet other chains (& publications) think differently. As with any film, it depends on local demand and tastes.

Doesn't seem to be setting the world on fire commercially or indeed with awards hopes but I had a blast seeing it at the London Film Festival, with Emma Stone and Billie Jean King herself in attendance - which was an experience just on its own. Film for me was very uplifting and engaging and would recommend it to everyone. I would say that it might work better for American audiences but kind of came and went when it was released over there. But it's definitely the kind of film that will do well on Netflix and TV showings I think.
