Well well well, this is genius isn't it? I bloody loved the cast recording and I'm gutted I'm missing this by just a few days.
I still might have a chance to see it next year when it comes back to the Arts though.

Alexia McIntosh (Cleves in the London/UK tour production) hinted that this cast could possibly release a live recording in the new year when it does its open London run.
Despite it returning to London, I’m really really really *really* hoping we will have another production of Six at the Edinburgh Fringe next year. I’m seeing it again in Glasgow in December but after that I’m not sure. Please Marlow & Moss, return to the best city in the world! (Edinburgh for those who didn’t already know)

Btw is this really a musical though? Based on what I've seen it looks more like a concert. So it would fall under the 'entertainment' category right? Kind of like Five Guys Named Moe last year.

It's a pop musical in concert form. But I don't believe the theatre is eligable anymore for the Oliviers, so the girls or the show can't be nominated. Unless I'm wrong haha.

It isn’t a traditional musical but it’s great fun and lets you listen to 6 different styles of music while learning history from the other perspective you’ve never heard.
I tried to convince our history teacher to take us to see it in Glasgow as an educational trip. Sadly not as the Tudors is not part of the British, Scottish and European contexts needed for National 5 History.

Well I finally got to see this tonight (after the “slippery stage” incident last month) and absolutely loved it.
First of all thanks to Theatreboard as I won the pair of tickets in the draw and it’s been a bit of a hassle for the mods given that my first attendance terminated early and the mods had to rearrange with the promoters. But I’m so glad they did. (And this probably wasn’t the sort of show I’d have booked otherwise)
Yesterday I sat through 7 hours of The Inheritance and that was magical, wonderful and moving. Tonight, something totally different, a sharp 75 minutes of sass, amazing performances and great music. If I had to sum up the vibrancy of the London theatre scene I couldn’t have done better than point to these two shows, utterly different but both genius in their own way.
What really made tonight’s show was the enthusiastic audience, yes it is more concert in style but the facts are all there and the lyrics are whipsmart, but I can’t get away from the energy of these six amazing performers (and their ladies in waiting) who gave everyone such an amazing night.

Can anyone explain the cast history of this?
I know it started at Cambridge University, but did that cast go with the show to Edinburgh? When did they switch to the professional cast?
And has there been two professional casts? I'm fairly sure the singers on the album are different to the ones I saw at the Arts.
Thanks!

I believe the first time they went to the Fringe it was with the Cambridge cast, it was when it was announced it was going to the Arts for those four/five performances in January that it changed I think!

The first time it went to the Fringe was with the MT Society, can't find a cast list sadly. Then when it went to the Arts last Dec/Jan for the workshop performances it was with a professional cast (Renee Lamb, Christina Modestou, Natalie Paris, Genesis Lynea, Aimie Atkinson, Izuka Hoyle) and that's the team that are on the studio recording, and now we're on the 3rd cast of Six effectively, with Natalie and Aimie being the Queens that continued with the show

I wonder how the original university cast feel now that the show has seen such success!

But saying that, I believe the original Catherine of Aragon performed at the cabaret Grace (Six's swing) did last week and even said beforehand that performing wasn't something she did professionally, so maybe it was a case of it all being more of a hobby for them? Who knows!

The Cambridge University Musical Theatre Society cast for the original sellout run at Sweet Grassmarket for the 2017 Fringe was: Catherine of Aragon - Megan Gilbert Anne Boleyn - Ashleigh Weir Jane Seymour - Holly Musgrave Anna of Cleves - Matilda Wickham Katherine Howard - Annabel Marlow Catherine Parr - Shimali De Silva Here's a brief clip of them in action: And the original artwork: Ashleigh Weir who played Anne Boleyn in the original cast was back at the Fringe this year with the Cambridge Footlights at Pleasance Dome and (for the final few performances only) the Cambridge University Musical Theatre Society's new show Lucky.

I must admit I adored the show in its original carnation every bit as much as its current guise. The original cast were all fantastic. Full, instant standing ovations (and completely sold out performances) both times I saw it in August 2017.
Cambridge University seems to be a hotbed for Fringe talent every summer, with the Footlights, the Impronauts, the Musical Theatre Society, drama society and various Footlights' alumni bringing their own productions (Big Shop and Manhunt two such brilliant shows this year) and a raft of other Cambridge University related productions (The Man Presents: Women and the sketch show Speechless both among my personal highlights at this year's festival).
I hope the original cast of Six feel very proud to have played such a key part in the show's success. If they hadn't taken the Fringe by storm in 2017 I guess we may never have seen sight or sound of Six since.

SO! Musical inspo: Catherine of Aragon - Beyonce and ShakiraAnne Boleyn - Lily Allen and Avril Lavigne Jane Seymour - Adele and Sia Anna of Cleves - Nicki Minaj and Rihanna Katherine Howard - Ariana Grande and Britney Spears Catherine Parr - Alicia Keys and Emeli Sande Renee Lamb also does a really hilarious Jessie J homage in the last chorus of No Way - sounds something like, "N-n-n-n-n-n-n-!"

Useless fact, Matilda Wickham is the daughter of Janie Dee (Follies, among many other things)!

I think I'm allowed to share this video since it's not part of a bootleg; everyone is taking pics and recording and they don't seem to care (actually, they even perform for the camera):
Ugh. The more I read/hear/see about this show, the more gutted I feel about missing this.

Thanks for sharing that @eldermillan I was there for the matinee and they told people to get cameras out for the remix! Still buzzing about that show, it’s such a fun afternoon out!

Slow to engage me but in due course I really enjoyed this in Kingston yesterday, even if it was a bit like a flashback to an extended 70's edition of Top Of The Pops but with witty, knowing lyrics.
And how amazing (and wonderful) to see the theatre full for the first time I can ever recall in all my years visiting the Rose, and a previously-unseen (by me anyway) audience: so many young, lively eager people. They even filled that awkward cushion seating area between the stage and the first row of seats, which certainly added to the atmosphere. The evening there certainly made up for my dire afternoon at Trial By Laughter in Guildford- and reader, I even bought the CD - that's how impressed I was.

Anyone going to see this in Southampton this week, please? Seems like a great opportunity to catch it in an area previously uncovered by the tour, so far as I know - and, I hope, in a more pleasant and affordable venue than the Arts Theatre, though I don't know NST's campus site, only the city one.
I'm still surprised at myself for finding this show so compelling and would even consider seeing it again (which I never do) if I had the chance, and though that won't happen in the near future, I'm sure from the enthusiasm here and seeing it for myself that this will have a longer life than so far announced.
Ironically the only downside of seeing something so impressive is that it then spoils you for any other new musical for ages afterwards: I saw Mythic last week and though it was fine, I couldn't help comparing it to this and finding it hopelessly lacking.
