Interesting that the story is going to be set in 1989 when Cassandra and Raquel first appeared but Granddad is also going to be in it and his character died in 1984/85. I wonder if they will blur the timelines as I'd think Uncle Albert would have to be featured and it would be fun to see him and Granddad together. Artistic licence. If you can bear to read 'The Sun' . . . Je m'appelle Raquel, Ken.

What an absolute plonker. But is he wrong? The average 'Only Fools and Horses' fan, the person who avidly watched the series, laughed hysterically at the funny lines, quotes the show and probably watches the re-runs (and these are most likely the people they will be relying upon to go and watch the show) probably don't go to a West End musical. And they probably think that those shows are "poncey" too. He's playing to his audience surely? Hence the interview in 'The Sun'. Yes he is, but the average West End show is anything but "poncey." It is neither pretentious nor affected, but is typically an audience pleasing musical designed with entertainment and a great night out in mind.
The fact that the average person may mischaracterise such shows as "poncey" doesn't mean that it's ok for Whitehouse to confirm their prejudices.
I do agree though that getting Sun readers to the theatre is good for everybody, so I'm glad he did the interview.
As it happens, I think Whitehouse is a national treasure, a gem of a mimic, with great comic timing and some acting skills as well. I do worry though that he will fall into the trap of making fun of the material, as much of his comedy was parody, and we want Del Boy on stage, not someone making fun of Del Boy.
Altogether, I'm actually very excited, as I think it could be very funny, if done right, and some good comedy songs added to the jokes might make for a most entertaining night out: the typical West End show, not poncey at all.

Knowing John Sullivan originally came up with the idea and started work on it makes me a feel a bit better about it, I'll probably see it but I don't think my hopes will be high!
I just listened to a radio interview with Paul Whitehouse (from Monday), he said it's based on the episode Dates which is when Del first met Raquel. Although that was before Rodney met Cassandra so I guess there will be some mixing up of the timeline and episodes.
Also, to answer someone's question earlier, David Jason was born in 1940 so he was early 40s at the start of the show.

Just had a look over the cast list again, there's no Damien in this production, Del's son? Wonder what the deal is there?

Gosh. They're really plugging this on London's not so glitzy undertube. There are posters everywhere.

I can't get over the pricing, seats that are £75 for heathers are £110 for this! practically anywhere I would normally choose to sit is classed as premium!

Pricing in the West End has spiralled out of control. And *that's* why shows aren't doing as well as they should be.

Now it's probably me being terribly snobby but I do think the Only Fools and Horses marquee looks terribly tacky on the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
It isn't exactly Maggie Smith in the Way of the World, Peter O' Toole in Man and Superman, Paul Scofield and Vanessa Redgrave in Heartbreak House, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart in Waiting for Godot etc. is it?

I have friends (would you believe?) who seldom go to the theatre but have booked to see this! I think it will appeal to an older (monied) geographic who are not regular theatre goers who would never go to see Company for example.

I think it will appeal to the Juke Box musical crowd. Mamma Mia, Motown, Thriller etc.
