Some of the cast are on The One Show tonight Pretty dreadful if you ask me! Hasn’t inspired me to book. I don’t want to bash a brand new show that hasn’t seen the light of day, but for the love of God what possessed the Producers to stick a number on prime time tv that resembles a third rate celeb singalong on Children In Need? Staging? Bit of choreo? Anybody? Or are the all so cock sure that the name is going to pull them in droves. How thoroughly depressing and there are some great people in the cast. Hope i’m wrong.

These promos of shows on TV rarely work. This certainly didn't. The song seemed totally under rehearsed! Surely it cannot be staged like that? However, I suspect the fans of the show will fill the theatre regardless.

This time tomorrow I'll be thinking about what I've just seen! A lot quieter on this thread than the other shows opening, is it a case of no news is good news?

It’s sad how that beautiful theatre has become the go to home for tacky shows. As someone said, to think it used to play home to our greatest actors.

I was just coming in to post that! Only had £6 so not getting one! No cast board for us upper circle types either! Fab view though from the centre of row G. Thoughts on the show to follow

My dad is there tonight. He’s the typical target audience so will be interested to see what he thinks.

I loved it. You’d certainly have to have an appreciation of the source and I’m not sure all the entrance applauses were needed but I loved that they got all the big references in. It seemed a bit long but I’m sure that’s normal for a first preview. Great songs, clever staging, fab cast, what more could you ask for an evening’s entertainment?

I thought it was far too long, but I guess they felt they MUST include just about all of the characters from the series in this, I don’t think songs like Holding Back The Years brought much to proceedings and there were a few stretches where the laughs were few and far between but overall I enjoyed it, it all seemed very good natured and the cast seemed to be having a blast. I doubt I’d go and see this again but I have to say I preferred this to Hamilton...
There’s been a few snobby comments on here about the ‘sort of people’ that would be booking to see this, and I have to admit when the Chas & Dave songs (and Any Old Iron) were in full flow, the sound (and vibrations) of hundreds of people clapping along and stamping their feet was indeed something to behold: Sondheim eat your heart out 😂

This whole thing is tragic. Thank god for the Broadway imports if this is the only ‘new’ homegrown musical we have opening anytime soon.

songs like Holding Back The Years Wait, it’s a jukebox show? What happened to ‘Book, Lyrics, and Original Music by Paul Whitehouse and Jim Sullivan’?

Its not a jukebox show, the only other cover version is Lovely Day (the Bill Withers song), the rest of it is Whitehouse and Sullivan or Whitehouse and Chas Hodges (actually not as much Chas/Chas & Dave stuff as I expected overall)

I don't see a problem, there are enough theatres in London to cater for everyone's tastes.
I am not a fan of this TV show, particularly, but Dianne Pilkington is in it so I am going to have to visit at some point.
