Does anyone know of any good discounts for this as it does not seem to be selling well. There was a 20% discount on some tickets a while ago but that has gone. Performance on 02/11/17 had not sold at all and the next day the house is practically sold out. Lots iof giveaways I presume

I'm not surprised it's not sold out - it's an awful production (I hate most of Mitchell's work both here and at NT.)

Not surprised either, I agree it’s a dreadful production of a great opera . Some really pretentious and self-indulgent ideas which totally ruin the piece . I’m surprised it’s been brought back . This is the second consecutive production of Lucia di Lammermoor which has massacred a beautiful opera .

Saw it yesterday, very fine cast but the direction is, well, peculiar. The divided stage works occasionally - I'm glad I had something else to watch during "Orrida è questa notte" - but most of the time it's just a hot mess. "Tu che a Dio spiegasti l'ali" is such an incredible piece of music, it's a shame they distract the audience with the whole graveyard scene: Edgardo should have had the whole unconditioned spotlight.
The so called "feminist take" doesn't work particularly well either, Lucia's pregnancy and miscarriage, the murder of Arturo as comedy relief, and the suicide of Lucia are all so problematic. Emotionally, this is a rich, dense production; but it's also deeply contradictory and awfully incoherent. Besides, I'm pretty sure that in the last scene they say Lucia won't live long enough to see the sunset, so why do the lights suggest that it's night?

This is on Sky Arts tomorrow afternoon (Sunday) 2.20pm-5pm. Sky Arts is also available in the Entertainment Pack on NowTV, which has a 14-day free trial.
(Repeated Friday morning at 6.20am, and knowing Sky Arts, ad infinitum...)

At least I can give it a chance now .

For what it’s worth, I enjoyed the music and singing, but hated the production . The split scene staging made for very cluttered and crowded scenes on one side of the stage, while being empty on the other side. The (usually offstage) scene where Lucia and her maid kill Arturo , in a prolonged and messy fashion, was just ludicrous.
