They(PSB) do really classy pop and are very artistic in terms of their art on their cds/ vinyl plus their stage shows.

Pet Shop Boys are up there with my favourite bands. Their run of shows at the Savoy was amazing

I saw them when they were supporting Take That on their stadium tour in Germany a couple of years ago. Absolutely wonderful live performance. I almost wished they weren't "just" the support act so I could have seen them perform for more than 45 minutes.

Saw them at the Royal Opera House, an excellent live show, but I just think all of the stuff they've released over the last 20 years or so sounds very samey and justa bit...dull. From West End Girls to Go West however = musical gold dust.

Good these, but not a patch on the Beautiful South This is correct. The Beautiful South are better than PSB. Neither are as good as Erasure. It is a small madness that PSB seem to have been critically elevated to something approaching high-art over Erasure. It is easy to forget, in these days of (sold out!) theatre shows, how big Erasure was - the Wild tour in 89/90 took in 28 UK arena dates, including my first ever gig. It's also easy to forget there is something of a message driving their pop music - their new album this year was greeted with comments along the line of " surprisingly, Erasure have delivered a "state of the nation" address". Their very name is a fairly stark political statement. Look back as far as The Circus (1987) and you find a title track lamenting the loss of heavy industry, and half a dozen songs sneaking in gay rights messages under the FM pop radar (It was many years after I knew the words to 'Hideaway' by rote that it struck me - "this is about coming out!") Compared to PSB, there is heart, rather than cynicism, substantially better song-writing, vocals in a different league entirely (and pleasingly, Valerie Charmers still on backing vocals after three decades), and an actual love of live performance, rather than it being a forced necessity. Both acts struggled a bit with growth after their Top 40 days. There are a few standouts from recent PSB albums - 'Pop Kids' & 'Twenty Something' off 'Super' are great, a few of the songs from 'Fundamental' have a nice bit of bite. Erasure slowed down their songs from 'I Say, I Say, I Say' onwards, possibly when I was too young to appreciate a lot of the material, but revisiting the mid-period albums now, in my late thirties, there's a lot of good stuff there. Over their last three albums, their standards have ratcheted up again - 'World Be Gone' is easily the best album they've produced since Chorus. Given Andy Bell's hip replacement, and a decade or so living with HIV, it's a miracle they're still touring at all, let alone playing some of the best shows of their career. |

Erasure's Wild Tour was huge culminating in a final huge show of the National Bowl. Still touring, Andy has had health issues but got his hips fixed and is back to a fighting weight, Vince is just Vince.
PSP took a long time to tour but their shows are classy affairs as you'd expect and like Erasure they have a formidable back catalogue fans still like to hear or relive their youths to. Plus it is the legit same guys not a walked down version of the band.
Beautiful South are no more but main singer and song writer Paul Heaton has had a resurgence in last few years with former South collaborator Jackie Abbott. Other South members still perform as the South on the gig circuit. Although not a Housemartins fan, I loved the South's early stuff especially with Briana Corrigan and the beautiful I'll Sale This Ship Alone.

Erasure are still big, I've found it impossible to get tickets for their next tour.
They supported Robbie Williams on his stadium tour this summer and were amazing. Their full set from one of the German gigs is on YouTube.

Four more dates at the Royal Opera House in July announced : ROHMight try to get tickets, but they certainly won't be cheap (also tempted to try for tickets for The Rolling Stones when they go on sale but the price of those will make the PSB shows seem cheap as chips) |

Excellent! I gave it a miss this time as it's the same show as last time, as far as I can make out. It is great - as some of the reviews said, a stadium-style event in a relatively intimate venue.

I saw it twice last time round, once from the front row of the Orchestra Stalls. It was amazing, but I just couldn't justify the cost to do it again.
Great fun as well seeing the ROH bar staff dealing with a different type of customer. And you could take drinks into the auditorium!

"If you prefer to remain seated during the performance we recommend booking tickets in the front row of each level as it is expected many people will stand and dance at their seat".

I think I came on here to praise Erasure's 'World Beyond' "classical" remix album. It's quite 'Wonderland' in the arrangements, which is nice to hear after so long.

My other half is a huge Erasure fan, so I’ve seen a fair few of their gigs get the years. They are absolutely excellent live, and our 9 year old came with us to the Hammersmith gig a month or so ago and had a great time even though they only knew some of the songs.
