Angstronauts - a space/teen movie The midnight matinee - really enjoyable, very enthusiastic audience and a genuinely good movie. Henry Lewis was out to cause chaos which was hilarious, but there were a lot of great songs and scenes, some for comedy, and some because they were actually decent - some of the scenes between Niall and Nancy were very good in particular, and I also liked the Susan and Henry L duo as well. Charlie corpsing on multiple occasions was very funny. It finished on a high note with a lovely message. I laughed heartily when Henry L took his “helmet” off to sacrifice himself and immediately hit the floor. The mirror bits were as excellent ordered

If It Wasn't For Those Pesky Kids - a crime drama
This was hilarious - almost the exact same cast as the midnight matinee, and some were clearly a bit sleep deprived and delerious, especially Henry Lewis who was bonkers this afternoon. As for Harry Kershaw and his vivacious entrance, few words can do justice to describe that. Everyone had a chance to shine which was nice - I loved Charlie and Niall as the detective couple, and Mike was great as the owner of the abandoned funfair. Henry's bonkers performance was the standout for me.

Is Henry L just getting more and more bonkers - in the two nights I've watched, it was almost as if his sole purpose was to promote chaos. Not that that is a bad thing. It might be fun to see him as Oscar's twin brother hosting one night (I apologize for not knowing if this has already happened)
FWIW, I really admired Susan Henderson in Angstronauts. I hadn't seen her before. She seemed like quite the driving originating spirit of many bits and went well with how the others tried to drive scenes.

Herny L hasn't done Oscar so far in this run, though I'm hoping he will at some point. He did 2 shows in the last run. I like seeing his Oscar, which I've seen half a dozen times live, as a change from Jonathan's as he's more laid back & more likely to allow the cast to stretch the family friendly boundaries!
Her surname is Harrison. I've seen her in lots of Showstopper shows over the last few years & she previously appeared with Mischief in the second WE run of Peter Pan Goes Wrong, as Lucy. I think she's fitted into MMN extremely well, but then she is a very experienced improvisor. I find it notable that when the Showstopper ladies appear in MMN the standard of songs seems to rise! Not just the actual lyrics & music but their willingness to break into song.

If you ever get the chance, see Susan Harrison's two person improv shows Beings, usually at Hoopla in London Bridge, with Andrew Gentilli and These Folk with fellow Showstopper alumni Justin Brett.

Abandoned Love - a Hallmark romantic comedy
A romantic comedy normally has a fairly simple plot, this had a plot as complex as a Christopher Nolan film - it was impossible to follow, mainly thanks to Harry Kershaw's 'Stop The Tape' gags. This was fairly chaotic, with Harry being the route cause of most of it, which made for a lot of fun. Mike has 5 different jaguars was great, and Joshua had a number of small, but entertaining characters. Loved Nancy as Emmy this evening, lots of great moments from her, including a couple of pause and rewinds. My personal highlight was the chaotic jazz group which totally stole the scene away from Charlie and Henry L having a serious moment.
Charlie Russell is Emmy tomorrow.

When it got to 8.57pm & Harry yelled "stop the tape" for the umpteenth time I did slightly lose patience & swear at the screen, as I was afraid they'd run out of time to get the happy ending I wanted. But fortunately Nancy let it over-run for a few minutes so we got the happy ending for Charlie & Henry L's characters. Some of their scenes together had a bit of a Groan Ups Act III vibe I thought, while there was a definite Magic Goes Wrong steal when Harry said led into one of the flashbacks with "Mind...mind...mind...."

Good Guys Finish Last - a superhero horror movie
Quite touching in places, utterly chaotic in others. My favourite moments were the inner monologues, starting with the seagull monologue, then the inner monologue of the ship, then the inner monologue of the sea. I also enjoyed Niall's and Henry S's dance together. I also liked the twist with the Bad Idea Pandas being the actual villains - and the fact they can take control of humans to carry out their bad ideas. Charlie made for a very enthusiastic Emmy which I enjoyed, and which we will see again tomorrow.

I was deeply disappointed that they didn't go for the forcing the pandas to mate solution! Loved Charlie as Emmy.

Ipswich It Up - a time travel musical
Utter chaos, and I absolutely loved it. Henry Shields, in particular, was not family friendly this evening. Highlights include - Henry S and Harry break dancing, the trio of dancers (Mike, Joshua and Henry) with the insync dance moves, Niall's low quality lyrics, the cheerleading squad, Joshua's horse solo, the running gag of Simon (Niall) not getting anything right, the cast's questionable knowledge of 2002, and the 'Beatles'. As one would expect from a time travel musical, the plot was completely incoherent, but I don't care because I absolutely loved that film!

You always sum these up really well. Great fun this one tonight, probably my favourite of this run. Highlight for me would be Henry Shields taking it to some very un-PC places. I wish it was a bit edgier like that more often. (Those pesky kids!) Thought Niall’s John Lennon was pretty much spot on too.

It’s a shame that the cast have to tone stuff down. That’s what I like about the late night shows they have done on during COVID. The gang can have more stuff that wouldn’t be broadcast in an afternoon or evening show. Out if interest, are the shows you’ve seen in person more suited to an adult audience or is it toned down?

When they did the first one of them I was hoping the livestreamed midnight matinees would allow more flexibility, but of course it's not midnight in America, Australia, etc. so that was scuppered too. The live shows I've seen definitely go further - not all of them, obviously, it just depends what happens - especially when it gets to the 9pm shows when they do 3-show days. Though I can think of a few dodgy earlier-in-the-day shows I've seen too! It's not that I want them to be dodgy for the sake of it, nor do I want lots of swearing, but it's annoying when something gets cut off when I thought the point of improv was that anything can happen.

I do think when the director isn't Jonathan, more stuff gets through.
Croydonosaurus - a monster epic, part 1
A Godzilla-style movie involving some scientists, a giant ladybird, Bez from the Happy Mondays and a dinosaur/shark monster, and characters called Romulus and Tarquin - didn't make a lot of sense at times, but a great deal of fun. Lots of fun moments for me - the green screen scene, the song about quite liking each other, Josh as Bez, and Susan as the cinema attendant were all highlights for me. Harry has set himself up as the villain for part 2 which will be fun, as he hasn't had many big parts in the films in the current run (Vinny the ventriloquist and the therapist being the only other 2 I can remember).

There won't be a sequel - there's been a positive case within the team so the cast have to self isolate.

I can't believe it's happened on the sequel day. Will we now never know the fate of the Croydonosaurus?!
ETA I've just read on the relevant thread that The Browning Version that was supposed to be playing at Riverside Studios has been cancelled due to covid disrupting their rehearsals too much. I don't know if The Browning Version company were doing their rehearsals at Riverside as well as intending to perform there but if they were then maybe the two cancellations could be linked.

Good news for this week's shows. I'm facsinated to see how it will play with a smaller comapny. The last Showstopper livestream had only 3 in the company (I think for distancing reasons more than cast availability) so if Mischief can scarce up more people than that then they'll be winning!

Great that they shows are still going ahead (I'm in London so missing out on the Thursday to Saturday shows). I'm looking forward to seeing who they bring in to replace the self isolating cast members.

Interesting. I wonder will it be people from the tours or people from other improv groups. Lauren Shearing still hasn’t appeared yet either.
I guess whoever tested positive was there between Thursday and Saturday for Jonathan to still be able to do it.

I know of someone in Thursday’s live audience who got pinged by Track and Trace.

I know of someone in Thursday’s live audience who got pinged by Track and Trace. That's interesting, considering's Mischief's announcement said "no registered cases will have come into contact with anyone visiting the venue". This is purely speculation on my part but I'm wondering if it's Charlie who is the main cast member involved. It could explain why she was supposed to chair Saturday's show then didn't, if she'd been told to isolate. If that is the case then I suppose all the cast who appeared in Thursday & Friday's shows would have to isolate, which (checks spreadsheet) would leave them with Jonathan & Dave, plus Lauren assuming she is actually going to do any shows this run. First ever two-hander MMN?!
