The sight of Lord Lloyd-Webber in HiVis and hardhat has tickled me this morning

Bless him. I'm afraid that fluorescent yellow really doesn't suit ALW, but what does? Liking the jaunty angle on his hard hat, though!

Brilliant,Serial Shusher,me too.Just imagine him being told by his ‘minder’, ‘Sir Andrew, you can look but for gods sake don’t touch anything’. Govt ministers and the royals are the same when touring factories and the like.Everyone always looks extremely nervous’😬

Btw if anyone has ALW’s ear can we please have a large bronze statue of Clare Halse in the refurb foyer to remind incoming shows what they have to live up to!

All statues will be ice sculptures of characters from his musicals. If his musicals are going to be the theme then it has to be cats. Real cats. Everywhere. Thousands of them. Sure, they'd be somewhat disruptive during performances, but so what? Cats!

There's a video of it on Facebook (the theatre tour page). I've been meaning to post about it but kept being too lazy, glad someone else did. Finally got round to watching this. www.facebook.com/DruryLaneTours/videos/301476243839254/Sad to think this fantastic theatrical heritage no longer exists in situ.

According to this story, when TRDL reopens it will be called just “The Lane”. I assume that this is designed to make it more approachable and branded like “The Bridge” or “The National”, and probably to avoid confusion with other Theatre Royals, but going from Theatre Royal Drury Lane to just The Lane strikes me as throwing away a chunk of its identity. www.whatsonstage.com/london-theatre/news/royal-drury-lane-rename-the-lane_50490.html

If they were changing the name they should have just bit the bullet and given it a brand new name as The Lane sounds quite flat and uninspired. Maybe it’s a holding name and over the next few decades will be changed to The Lloyd-Webber or something.

Why? What is the point of changing the name of such an iconic venue? And to such a b****y stupid name too!

If they're going to go down that sort of pretentious route why not go all the way and just call it "Lane"? Or "The".
How long do you think it will be before it occurs to someone that the Internet is a thing that exists now and generic-sounding names are a disaster when someone's trying to locate you with a search engine?

This is shocking - this is London’s most historic theatre - they should not be allowed rename it.

This is so awful! What a horrible name change. Who ever thought this was a good idea?! I'll refuse to ever call it that, even if it causes some confusion over the phone. It'll always be the Theatre Royal Drury Lane or just Drury Lane to me.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s referred as The Lane within the industry
“Dahhhling have you heard what’s replacing 42nd Street at The Lane? Some godawful Disney thing” ”Ughh... I know dear, dreadful isn’t it?”
And some bright spark has decided that’s what everyone should call it. It sounds like some chintzy tea shop. Absolutely hideous.

Nobody in the industry calls it The Lane. I've only ever heard it referred to as Theatre Royal (by people that never leave London) or Drury Lane.
