Ok I went back and read the initial comments. Four of us in a row literally said 'hey seems like a good idea to me' I'm not sure where the idea that we're saying it's above criticism because it helps disabilities is coming from. All of us have gone around and around in circles saying basically the same thing 'Seems like a helpful idea, why don't we see how it plays out?' Yeah, OK, perhaps I'm getting a bit worked up about this. But to me, having spent money on an active 3D TV that I can only use as a 2D TV because of the weight of the glasses and now finding that I can't buy a passive 3D TV because the glasses issue has wiped out the market, it's rather galling to find that everyone is brushing aside the glasses-weight issue as if it can't possibly be of any consequence. It's also galling that people are suggesting that because I'm not deaf I can't have an opinion on the weight of glasses. I would love to see this work. I think this sort of mixed reality has an immense amount of potential, not just for this application but for anything where people can make use of information overlaid on what they're watching. But right now there is a known issue that keeps getting in the way. It's all well and good everyone saying "let's see how it plays out", but with a known problem still present I'm concerned that we can already guess how it will play out. |

Look Matthew, I'm sorry if this has come off in any way as a personal attack- it sincerely hasn't been meant that way, and I am sorry you're wound up/upset. Any comments I've been making have been meant in an honest spirit of discussion, and that, from what I've read about this I think it's an exciting development of real help. But nobody is saying that you can't have an opinion because you're not deaf on the actual technology. What we've been saying is that you probably can't appreciate how useful it is or how excited people who will make use of it are.
As I said right at the beginning, happy to agree to disagree on this- you have your take I have mine, as do others. I now get that you have a particular investment (it seems quite literally) on the tech side. That's fine, but the rest of us are also entitled to stay camped in the 'well let's see how it goes' with optimism camp.

Sorry Matthew, I've just had a spate lately of people complaining about stuff because it's not perfect now, even though honest attempts are being made to improve things for people, and it's wearing on me.
Sometimes it feels like you can never make people happy no matter what you do. (That's the infamous editorial you.)

More background - this is part of Accenture's partnership with the National - www.accenture.com/gb-en/company-uk-sponsorships - so presumably they are sharing the cost of this. I guess the idea is to use the National as a testing ground and if this goes well there are a lot of other potential applications. |

Let's hope the subtitles are correct .- Although I have subtitles on my TV I only use them on recorded programmes. I find that on live programmes they are invariably several seconds behind. It drives my husband mad.[ although to be fair most things do.]
