Wasn’t this announced for the Gillian Lynne after the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe? I thought this was great watching the NT Live broadcast, so might consider seeing it on stage. Just scooped by Baz, not officially confirmed yet. |

I enjoyed The Outfit this year and he was the best thing about Benediction, I thought. According to imdb.com he is filming in a couple of UK-based things at the moment but I wouldn't be surprised if Hollywood comes calling. |

I can't imagine SRB is going to become the next Mark Rylance, I imagine he'll get more screen work but he's always been someone who is more of a theatrical beast.

I think there are very few stage actors, and no stage directors, who wouldn't rather be working in film. |

Quite a lengthy run of nearly 4 months. The new logo is nice, it's a mix of the Broadway artwork and the London artwork.

This was originally an Italian play. It shows that there are contemporary European plays that will do well here, though you wouldn't know it from the programming of the UK subsidised sector who are in thrall to USA. When was the last big hit like this ?

This was originally an Italian play. Although I believe the Italian original was five hours long, and had a cast of about 30. It's quite a radical adaptation. |

I suspect the answer to my question is 1996 when the French play Art opened in London. I was going to say Festen in 2004 but that was an adaptation of a Danish film rather than a play.
I could go on - when was the last time the NT staged a play by a living German writer ? Never ?

I suppose it depends how 'big hit' is defined, but Florian Zeller's was still in short trousers when Art arrived on these shores.
Are we including Irish playwrights? If we are, then there are works by Conor McPherson, Martin McDonagh and probably others I can't think of at the moment.

I went to see it when it transferred to the West End, and loved it. At the time I thought it was the best thing I'd ever seen. I still rate it as one of the top three I've ever seen.
I was in complete awe at the three actors playing all the parts. I'll go again this second run and it will be interesting to see if I'll like it just as much.

I was working in a cinema when this was originally streamed as part of NTLIVE. I didn't know a thing about it but I sat down as I waited for my bus. I was in awe. If it wasn't for the bus I would've loved to stay after the 1st interval.
For months it bothered me that I never got to see the end of this, I genuinely couldn't stop thinking about it. I loved the set, the writing, THE CAST! Finally there was the encore screening that happened about a year later.
I can't wait to make the trip to the West End to see this thought-provoking production for the first time live. There's nothing like being there in person. Very curious to see who they cast and if any of the 3 from the original run come back.
