9 January - 14 April www.thebirthdayparty.londonI remember a very good production at the Piccadilly with Timothy West and Prunella Scales in the late 90s, but I didn't see the later production at the Duchess with Eileen Atkins and Henry Goodman. Good to see it being revived again by Sonia Friedman.

My close personal friend Sonia Friedman has sent me a priority booking link Also on sale to ATG members, and general sale at mid-day. The slightly restricted pillar seats in the stalls are £25 during previews, £35 afterwards (compared to £25 for the whole run of Hamlet) Edited to add - if you want priority booking, click here:

I've never seen The Birthday Party, but I'm also not in a hurry to see any more Pinter. Is this one that's worth a gamble, or is it classic Pinter and thus unlikely to sway me in his favour?

Very tempted by the cast, but looks like they're not doing the bargain £15 Dress Circle seats that I loved so much for Who's Afraid and Hamlet. Very sad. I shall wait for reports before deciding whether to stretch my budget - I've heard that even for less than £30 the upper circle and balcony at the HP are pretty dire.

Front centre balcony and upper circle at the Pinter are actually far better than their reputation deserves. Standing at the back of the balcony for Who's Afraid was even fine.

I'd say it was a lot more approachable than more poetic, oblique stuff like Old Times and No Man's Land. It is very powerful on stage in the right hands.

Definatly an approachable Pinter- one of my favourites.
And to be honest I've paid good money to see Zoe W in worse. And I'd probably pay to see Stephen M read the phone book, and look at his hair.

The slightly restricted pillar seats in the stalls are £25 during previews Well, I've taken your and Theatremonkey's advice and booked N7... I've only visited this theatre for the Hamlet talk and its sightlines aren't great, are they? What's a good cheap circle option, btw? Even the rail-restricted were pricey in preview!

Checked lots of dates and seems C20 & 21 are either taken or not being put on sale?

Design by the Quay brothers! Despite quite liking the recent Caretaker, and No Man's Land runs, and loving Toby Jones as an actor, I was on the fence about this. However, the Quay brothers doing the design tips the balance for me. Absolutely love their short films and distinctive style. Instant buy. Thanks for mentioning it HG, I probably wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

Front centre balcony and upper circle at the Pinter are actually far better than their reputation deserves The view is OK (had a few moans about the balcony for Hamlet). Legroom isn't wonderful, though - bit better since the upper circle seats were adjusted, perhaps, but I wouldn't want to sit there for long. Are the C £15 seats a no-goer for this?

I've looked through a lot of dates and the available and unavailable seats seem to be in a regular pattern, so I presume some are being held back or sold through another site. The only cheap seats I noticed currently on sale in the stalls were the N and O ones behind the pillars - £25 plus fee in previews, going up to £35 - £39 in the main run. I booked an N7 stalls and an A6 in the circle but I notice the restricted view seat on the other side of that front row circle bloc isn't on sale.

Slightly off topic but can anyone please enlighten me as to why there is a little icon of an open book beside the title of this thread?!

So O16 right behind a pillar in preview at £10 cheaper or N7 £10 more out of preview but better view? Any thoughts anyone? On the plan it looks like all you can see is pillar in o16.

Yes please!!! Despite having seen most Pinter (missing a few which never get done professionally it seems - A Slight Ache, The Basement, A Night Out, The Dwarfs, Tea Party) and having seen this on television and film, also read it and have been quoting it for years, I've never seen it on stage.
So rather excited about this.

"£10 cheaper", not "£10".
