I agree, i think we as a nation were incredibly selfish back then and i dont think that would happen today, we would expect her to look after her family. I think what she should have done is do the televised address earlier but from balmoral. Conplete silence didnt help.
It was a fascinating week, only 9/11 came close in the shock waves created around the country and the wall to wall news.
Ive never quite understood the Diana obsession, she did good but she also was no angel and i never found her to be exceptionally attractive (i think kate is more attractive personally)

it's utterly ludicrous to suggest that the Royal Family had the mother of the 2nd and 3rd in line to the throne - who naturally loved her - murdered for being a bit embarrassing. They didn't even have Wallace Simpson bumped off, and she caused a constitutional crisis! The Duke of Windsor lived to a ripe old age, and he was a Nazi sympathiser! Having awkward members of the family murdered is just not their style. It wasn't the Royal Family wot done it... Kate (Duchess of Cambridge) asked the Queen "What is the secret of a long life?" the Queen replied "stay faithful to my grandson and don't ever ever ever go with a Muslim."

I know we've been a bit jokey on this thread, including me, but I think those who try to diminish the impact of Diana's life and death are misguided.
Saying that its all in the past and we should move on is ridiculous. This was a princess, a future Queen, who died in circumstances that are unusual to say the least. It's history. You can't just wipe it out because you don't like it.

"Not other Royal Family in History has killed more members of their own family than the British Royal Family, including Diana" How many members of her own family was it Diana killed? I forget. "Not other Royal Family in History has killed more members of their own family than the British Royal Family, the last one being Diana" Edited for better understanding

You can't just wipe it out because you don't like it. She wasn't a future Queen when she died. She was divorced from the Prince of Wales and therefore, gave up that claim there and then. I do find it mildly amusing that the press are all so pro-Diana even now when in the weeks, nay months, leading up to her death they didn't have a good word to say about her. It's incredibly sad that she died and no-one in their right mind would have wished it upon her (no, not even the 'evil' Royal Family) but this constant beatification of her by the press and public alike still makes me want to vomit.

I believe her title, if she was still alive when William inherits the throne* was going to be 'Princess Mother'. She would never have held the title 'Queen'.
*Bear in mind that the Windsors are notoriously long-lived, while both of Diana's parents died at the age of 68. There's every chance that Charles will make it at least into his 80s and that William will be in his 50s or 60s when he becomes King.

Baring accident Charles, William and Prince George will all be elderly when they inherit the throne.
Regarding Diana..... Enough is enough is enough!!!

I think we would have expected someone to tweet commentary 24/7 and the wailing would have reached new peaks far quicker with the aid of social media - which magnifies absolutely everything to a preposterous degree (well, to those who remember plenty of life before it, anyway). Oh gosh, can you imagine what it would have been like if it had happened now with all of the social media nonsense that goes on nowadays? Although having said that, had she lived for another 20 years she probably would have turned into Jackie Onassis, marrying some wealthy millionaire and spending her life swanning around on yachts spending his money. If not fading into obscurity, she would have become just another gazillionaire socialite hosting charity galas and spending too much money on plastic surgery for herself and her freeloading hanger on "rock" Paul Burrell. Or she would have married Donald Trump.

Well, St Paul of Burrell was busy delivering flowers in Wrexham yesterday of all days.

I'm just surprised that he's not holding up a framed signed picture of Her Holiness in that photo.

It's really heartwarming to know that, whatever else we disagree and argue about on this board, we all agree about Paul Burrell.

Yes, how the world has changed in those 20 years! Have watched all the Diana programmes with just the drama tomorrow night now to go!Strange how it reawakens all that emotion 20 years on and seeing from friends of hers who have never spoken before brings things more to life about how she was.
