Well earlier on in the thread someone said it wasn't BTTF which to be fair, sounds legit, i would be surprised if Curve could get rights to do a movie adaptation of such a big name classic. Maybe we are looking at something not quite as instantly recognisable or obscure? It's defo an 80's film adaptation.OMGosh, it's going to be 'Ishtar' isn't it? I knew it! Or Howard the Duck?!! Paging Elaine Paige...

It could be Officer and a Gentleman, if it is related to Jamie Wilson, who was quoted as saying he was working on this with Curve for a 2018 production.

Because it would be too obvious. When it's announced you'll see that it is indeed Officer It could be Officer and a Gentleman, if it is related to Jamie Wilson, who was quoted as saying he was working on this with Curve for a 2018 production. If it is An Officer and a Gentleman then it will have been, for me, much ado about nothing.

Because it would be too obvious. If a lack any actual clues was their intention, she may as well have sung 'Agadoo' to get us all talking about a Black Lace jukebox musical!

This has already actually been done in Australia 5 years ago. I looked it up yesterday when I heard about it. You can see a trailer and some show clips on YouTube. I'm guessing this curve one will be a new production entirely but boy did it seem cheesy....

It's difficult to imagine where, in the story, there could be a tap routine and, in my book, a musical is simply not a musical without a tap routine!

Right so why is there no mention of who's actually doing the music? I heard to be honest this was going to be a jukebox musical so are they really just going to somehow make this a musical out of a load of random 80's songs or ones that appeared on the soundtrack or something? Sounds like it. Curve is my local, i support it, but i'm sorry to say this sounds potentially disastrous and not something they should be doing.

"Its soundtrack includes the hit song from the movie Up Where We Belong along with 80s classic anthems including Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Material Girl, Don’t Cry Out Loud , If You Believe in Love and Alone."
That quote seems to indicate it is just a jukebox of cherry picked 80s 'hits'. Not for me; we don't need another.

Won't lie, I am disappointed this is jukebox. I thought we were going to get something new that is British and exciting.

This is the issue with Curve, whilst i love it as my local and think they have put on some good shows, we have things like Guys & Dolls and Everybody's Talking About Jamie coming out of Sheffield Theatres, Gypsy and more coming out of Chicheste, all these shows coming out of Manchester now...meanwhile we have a jukebox version of An Officer and a Gentlemen, Grease and Legally Blonde revivals coming out of Curve. It frustrates me to no end. Of all the new musicals they could try, all the films they could adapt, all the ways they could do even this show...i can't with it. I'm disappointed.
To be fair though i did like Grease/Legally Blonde/Hairspray ect ect and i do think that the upcoming productions of SB and Scrooge are decent shows for them to have and i'm looking forward to them, also Adrian Mole has been a success in terms of getting a London run and i think it's a really good show they did well with and deserves that success , it's that kinda thing they need to be doing more of, not picking a random 80's film and throwing a load of random 80's songs in to make it a tacky sing along musical, which i think we all know it will probably end up as.
Let's hope i'm proven wrong.

I'm gutted that this isn't Back To The Future, I was really hoping to see it!
I haven't seen AOAAG but why would they use 'Power of Love' if it is already associated with a different iconic film?

Im guessing to drum up speculation and attention. Had they announced this show specifically by title at the Season Launch, would this thread exist?

Has anyone seen this? It's kind of embarrassing. Also, the title song..
I'd much prefer an Officer and a Power Bottom.

Whilst that video is pretty terrible, the arrangement of '(Love lifts us) Up Where We Belong' sounds amazing. Noting its inclusion in this show gives me hope that it'll get licensed for the stage vers of Moulin Rouge for Elephant Love Medley.

^ there's no doubt about that. They both have great voices, and the song is a decent one if it wasn't as abused, overplayed, oversung, etc.

That Australian production looks pretty bad, but at least it was an original score!
So they've done away with that altogether and replaced it with 80's hits? Do we know that it's definitely the same book?

AndyH you have pretty much summed up my views on Curve lately. Back when Paul Kerryson was there I was eagerly awaiting Nikolai to take over as I thought we would get fresh, innovative theatre produced, but it just seems as though we are getting production after production of crowd pleasers to bring in the masses but nothing new or different!

I just got an email about this from Edinburgh Playhouse boasting the "The World Premiere Prior To London!"
From that I had assumed it would be like Young Frankenstein, one venue before London, not what this seems to be, a UK tour. Quite misleading.

Ooh sounds smashing. If they're shoe-horning 80s classics into the score, I hope they've made space for Russ Abbot's 'Atmosphere' somewhere. Oh, I love a party with a happy atmosphere.
Too early for a joke about seamen in Leicester or should I wait until closer to the time?
