Personally I just wish I had liked it more. For me it was just meh with a lot of singing and dancing. And really I could not understand the sustained SO for Charlie Stemp. He is fine, but not someone I would say I must go see this show to see him in it.

Anyone know why there was a kipps understudy the other night? I believe it might be scheduled holiday, as it was/is listed on the website. He will also be off 30th Jan - 1st Feb 2017. I think Wednesday was his first performance off since starting the Chichester run, which is pretty impressive! And welcome to the board!!

The Kipps understudy is Sam O'Rourke who normally plays Buggins. This may be heresy on this board - but I actually slightly preferred him to Charlie Stemp, He can sing and dance well but is slightly more quirky than Stemp and less the toothy cheeky chappy, which I thought made him more endearing and believable. I think he's also a better actor - and I don't think I was just being generous because it was his first performance. It certainly makes you appreciate how the show is entirely directed around Kipps - and he is the star - regardless of who plays him. O'Rourke seemed genuinely moved by the reception he received - or maybe he's a very good actor!!

Finally seen this show at today's Matinee as my penultimate show this year. Hugely enjoyed it, almost always had a big smile on my face. What a uplifting, funny and feel good show - so glad that I went. Charlie Stemp is a star, also enjoyed seeing Emma Williams again.
If you haven't yet, go and see this show. If HMV is open tomorrow, I'll buy me the cast recording.

I saw it last night and really enjoyed it. Charlie Stemp is fantastic as the lead, but I was impressed by most of the cast (I didn't like Gerard Carey much). Score was catchy, and it wasn't obvious to me what was new and what was from the original. Pick Out A Simple Tune was the highlight, and it is still in my head now. I'd say the auditorium was about 90% full, with all 4 levels open.

I'm so pleased with this show... not just becsuse it is a great show overall, but because they stuck around when they didn't hafe a big advance at all, let the reviews come out, promoted the show hugely and it seems to be working and getting more and more people in.

I'm not so sure. The theatre only seats about 850 and with a cast this size to only be playing at about 90% at Christmas is not great - especially when this has been discounting heavily since it opened and given the advertising that seems to be behind it. I really enjoyed the show and am still enjoying the soundtrack, and if Cameron subsidising it means more people can see it, then I'm not going to moan! I'm also glad Emma W got to be in something in the West End that has had a half decent run.

The cast are performing live on The One Show next Tuesday at 7:15. What does that mean in terms of the performsnce that evening? Are we assuming understudies will be on for whoever is at The One Show, or is there no performance that night?

Haha, it seems as you were writing that question, stevejohnson678 answered it above you before you had even asked!! *twilight zone music*

It seems to be doing alright thus far.

has anyone sat in the balcony slips? I'm on a mega budget but so want to see it. Down for Rachel Tucker's last in Wicked end of the month and can catch the matinee if the seats wont be too bad?

How about dayseating? I got a front row Stalls seat with an amazing view for £20, and I doubt that the queue will be too busy at the end of January.

Extended to 2nd September according to DMT website. Really can't be doing that badly?! Even though it's a Mackintosh show in a Mackintosh theatre so he can effectively do as he pleases, but still!

Yes, interesting to see it will now do three matinees throughout the week and take the Wednesday night off! *from the extension this is happening, not to concern anyone who has already booked!
