Dayseating again today to take a friend who's not seen it and wave goodbye to Willemijn (figuratively at least). Always worth the 4am alarm to be able to drive up and stand in the queue. But I do wish the experience of queueing wasn't so fraught, as the people in front of me are slowly joined by their friends and family and my position goes from 6th to whatever it was... eeeh well that's day seats for you

the people in front of me are slowly joined by their friends and family and my position goes from 6th to whatever it was I hate it when people do that. I'm fine with people leaving for a few minutes to get something to eat or drink or go to the restrooms, but everyone who's away for more than 15-ish minutes should have lost their place in line. And those who join their friends a few minutes before the box office opens are the worst. This is extremely unfair to those who got up early and stood in line for (up to) several hours. I, however, don't accept such a behaviour anymore and point them to the end of the line. And if they want to wait with their friends, they can do so at the very end of the line.

Not Wicked but day seats related (or better, rush seats in this case): A friend queued for rush seats for Come from away on Broadway. I had arranged to pick her up once she got her ticket just after 10. Got there slightly early so kept her company until the box office opened (and made a point of telling the people behind her in the queue that I was not getting tickets). Two minutes before 10 a guy appears and joins the girl second in line. After debating whether to ignore it or not the woman behind my friend went up to him and asked if he and the girl were getting a total of 2 tickets (which would have been fine). He replied "No, we are getting 4." to which she VERY firmly told him that this wasn't going to happen. His response was: "But I was here! I was over there!" - pointing at the returns queue for Dear Evan Hansen. The cheek of some people! Safe to say the guy ended up not getting tickets and went back to his spot at Dear Evan Hansen with much muttering and complaining.

Bad behaviour in a dayseat/rush queue?

See... this is why every queue should come with an approved person with a clipboard!

When she gets fed up with it, I wonder who should take over? {Spoiler - click to view} Begins with 'M' ends with 'l', Wicked fan, quite strict about queuing...

Wimbledon have the right idea. Very strict, enforced rules, but then they have the resources, staff and a large park at their disposal.

Well that's just not cricket at all really. You should firmly tell them to get to the back of the queue if they wish to buy more than 2 tickets. If that doesn't work, take a bottle of coca-cola from your bag and empty it all over them. Dries just as quickly as water but it's sticky. They won't do it again.
Alternatively, fall to the floor crying out that they struck you and call the police to have them arrested for assault.
Scum. I can't remember the last time I saw 4am but if I got up at that ungodly hour and someone crossed me then they deserve all they get.
You don't watch 10 years of 'Dynasty' and not walk away with something.

I've dayseated a bit in the past. I immediately introduce myself to everyone when I arrive, and establish who is first, second etc. If they are holding for anyone, how many tickets they are buying, etc. Everyone knows where they are and it breaks the ice. But I am a bit an extrovert! Plus it's a fantastic flirting opportunity #creep

People would laugh.* *before someone corrects me, yes I know the Royal Exchange sells their "bonkettes" on the day but no-one would turn up before the box office opened.

All I got was an unhealthy obsession with Dex Dexter and Jeff Colby.

The traffic noise was drowning out my tutting this morning so my telegram group sent me growling noises.

I dayseated for Breaking The Code. When I arrived, with an hour to go before the box office opened, there were perhaps 10 people already in the queue, with more than that behind me by opening time. From what I understand, it was even longer for Maxine Peake!

Its this kind of thing that puts me off dayseating, I remember it being similar one of the times I did it at Wicked, luckily it was a 2 show day and I could go to either but still. Lets goo biometric and you have to touch a fingerprint on a sensor when you first get there to confirm your place in the queue.

Just seen that people in Barcelona started queueing yesterday for U2 concerts this Tuesday - I don't like queueing for more than half an hour for anything (part of the reason I only go to NYC once in a blue moon is the damn queueing for hours at passport control) - why the hell would you go somewhere like Barcelona just to spend three days dossing on the pavement on the off chance you'll be a few feet closer to the stage than anyone else - its not like Bono comes out flinging Euros into the crowd. Get a life - enjoy where you are, see the sights, have a proper experience.

To varying degrees I've arrived early for general admission gigs to get a spot on the front barrier, but I've never done it 3 days in advance! What the U2 fans were doing is extreme but it doesn't mean they don't have a life.

Regarding late arrivers joining their friends in dayseat queues, I agree this is not on and have politely approached people who've done and asked them to see how unfair it is to the people who got there before them. On one occasion, I think it was the Rylance Twelfth Night in the West End, the girl who joined her friends was so chastened into glum-faced silence, she left and never returned. The other guy who'd approached her with me said he felt really bad. I told him not to be so ridiculously soft, while we weren't telling her to get lost we were absolutely right to ask her to move to the back of the queue. We didn't think she'd leave completely but she was probably being realistic as she wouldn't have got a ticket anyway by that point. Ah well, that'll learn her.
What do we think about the place-holder? In the Angels dayseat queue recently the bloke at the front left when another bloke arrived and took his place, so Bloke 1 had been keeping the spot for him. From previous discussions of this I get the impression most people have no problem with it but it bothers me. Bloke 2 arrived some time after I did but still got first place. I don't like it!
