Not a lot there that appeals to me either, and I'm less willing to take a risk on the Upstairs shows now they are £25.

The Upstairs shows sound more appealing than the Downstairs shows, but I don't really like going Upstairs if I can help it. Maybe I'll wait for reviews before committing to anything this time around...

Rita, Sue and Bob Too is the only thing there that catches the eye, but I'm not going to get too excited about it six months in advance.

Reading about the plays, quite a lot that appeals, particularly Grimly Handsome and Bad Roads, good to see a decent international reach, too. Not something that the Court should always focus on but the times we are in need a focus outwards to combat the danger of increasing insularity.
One other interesting link - having revived Road and then Rita, Sue and Bob too, we get two of the best portraits of Northern working class life from the eighties plus both of them were transferred to the screen by the sadly too early departed Alan Clarke.

Girls and Boys and Grimly Handsome both seem pretty interesting to me, as does Goats.
While I can't really tell what Black Men Walking is about from the blurb, the performances are pretty intruiguing: It's listed as having a single performance on August 8th of this year, followed by a ~6 month gap, before starting again for a run in March.
The booking section of the site seems a little off, as some of them say they're 'sold out' or 'limited' already, while another says that public booking opens on February 10th. Presumably these parts of the website are just placeholders.

My Mum's a Tw*t is playing twice-nightly, so its two-week run has the same audience capacity as a usual four-week run.
LIFT are going to continue to tour Minefield, to venues to be announced.

There was a reading of Goats at the Royal Court in March 2016. I found it a bit chaotic but maybe it was the reading.

I love the RC relaxed approach
However now on the site there is heavy traffic alert
First time I have seen this for the venue
Probably as so many shows going on sale in one go....

I got through well before midday for Girls & Boys tickets as well.
To be honest, even though it worked out for me, I'm not keen on companies publicising ticket release timetables and then ignoring them. It strikes me as completely undermining the chaotic fairness of queuing for tickets online.
Opening the doors early is fine for traditional queues, since it doesn't change the 'first come first served' nature of that approach. However, letting people through early online or over the phone fundamentally changes the game, and in the long term will encourage people to ignore any schedules publicised by the theatre.
Anyone who's tried for Glastonbury tickets knows that it can be a very frustrating process, but at least there's a level of equality in the fact that you know you're generally as likely to be as lucky as anyone else. It would be unfair IMO if they quietly released tickets an hour before they said they would. I know theatre tends not to be comparable in terms of demand outstripping supply, but I suppose things like Ferryman or Angels In America are similar.

I didn't want to start a new thread to ask this rather rethoric question..
Is it just me or a two-week run of a new Chris Thorpe play staged by Artistic Director Downstairs seems a little bit weird (=limited)? royalcourttheatre.com/whats-on/victory-condition/
I would love to go as I'm a big fan of Jonjo O'Neill (as his incredibly blue eyes  ) but the timing couln't be more rotten. Do you think this one may have a life beyond? |

The Royal Court always seems to do weird stuff, short runs of random things inserted between fuller runs (although given equal weight on the What's On page on the website). It *could* come back, but equally it could not. And if it comes back, there's no guaranteeing the cast will be the same.

Chris' new play is going to be amazing, from everything I've heard about it. And of course lovely Jonjo's always endlessly watchable. I don't know why exactly the run is so limited but I'm liking the rep thing.
