They already did "Into The Woods," Mr Snow, and brilliantly, too. I have the DigitalTheatre recording. I think "Starlight Express" and "Once" could both make great use of the space. I'd love to see Starlight there but I'd be worried with even a hint of rain.

The Wizard of Oz could look brilliant outdoors! Would probably be challenging though.

West side story The music man My fair lady How is My Fair Lady suitable for an outside venue? Most of the show is set indoors!

The Sound of Music settings are very much open to interpretation, but My Fair Lady you've got Higgins' study, Eliza's bedroom, The Embassy.... how does that uniquely lend itself to an open air production? It kind of ruins the few moments when you do need to go outside, like the Ascot Gavotte reveal.

A good director will be able to overcome inside settings in the open air theatre, but really the setting brings a production alive, I know it's not musical but Jeusarlem would be brilliant, you wouldn't even need a stage!!!

On The Town and Seven Brides had plenty of indoor scenes and worked fine. The show doesnt need to be permanently set outside, more just suit an outdoor space and can work in daylight without lighting effects etc (i cant imagine something like Phantom working there for example). With regards to new work, theres lots of fringe venues that can do that. Regents Park and Chichester are probably the best options for producing quality revivals of classic shows, without them we wouldnt get to see many as many classics

There are hundreds of shows that could easily be done outdoors, but this thread was asking which ones "uniquely" lend themselves to the space. It sounds to me like some of you are just shouting out names of shows you want to see brought back!

Maybe people are thinking less "this musical should be done in a uniquely outdoor space", and more "this musical deserves a brilliant, large-scale, and lovingly directed revival". It's hard to think of anyone with better space and skill for that in London than Timothy Sheader.

But to suit the unique setting doesnt mean the whole show should be set outside

He hasn't tweeted about it but it's going to be Little Shop of Horrors at the Open Air next summer according to Baz in today's Daily Mail.

An open air Dancing at Lughnasa in autumn would be lovely.

How about The Capeman? It had a brief revival at Central Park, better received than the original production.
