Dean John-Wilson and Na-Young Jeon will play Lun Tha and Tuptim. It's great that Jeon is coming back to London, I thought her Fantine was wonderful

Jeon Na Young is SO fabulous. I love her singing. AGH anyone but DJW. BTW - did he and Cynthia break up? I could swear I saw a picture of her kissing someone on Valentine's Day and it was't him.

Shows website lists this extension as the final entension but I suspect if proven a success with reviews and everything, it could go on until panto time.

God, DJW does not fit in with this premium cast whatsoever (vocally can't imagine him singing these lush R&H melodies), but damn he's gonna be the buffest Lun Tha in history I suspect. What's the point of him even in wearing anything on top for the whole show?

Y’all are just appalling for treating him like a piece of meat.
He WILL be topless though won’t he? I think that’s the historically accurate way to go with his character.

I think he will wear a sort of vest, like Conrad Ricamora did on Broadway.

Hmmmm.....not too sure about DJW singing a luscious, legit score. He painfully over-sung in Songs For A New World, but contemporary seems to suit his voice best. Never saw him in Aladdin, though. Willing to be proved wrong!

If it's anything like this: (16 seconds) we might expect some chestage.

Ya'll are going on about his chest, I really didn't think he or hsi body was anything special when I saw him in Aladdin. I actually thought this much discussed chest and abs were pretty much of a letdown. ... though he and Cythia were together at the time, and if I were in a relationship with her, I'd imagine I'd start losing my best assets.

If it's anything like this: (16 seconds) we might expect some chestage. Dean is a lot bigger than Conrad R (Broadway) or that tour guy (name?), so I'd imagine his costume will reflect that. Still can't hear him sing these songs. He has two of the most glorious tunes in the whole show. Shame.

My problem with this show is the venue.
(I fear) the intimacy of some aspects of the show- facial expressions, the march of the iambs children- will just get lost.
I've no doubt that because of the size and depth of the stage the Shall We Dance sequence will look great and accommodate those infamous hoop skirts, and whilst I appreciate the producers desire to get bums on seats and accommodate the coach load but in my opinion, this needs to in proper theatre.

The whole Tuptin/Lunhar affair (We Kiss in a Shadow), little sequences between Anna and her son Louis, the whole crawling around on their hand and knees in the hooped skirt- Head should never be higher than Kings! I've no doubt the whole visiting Ambassador/ dinner/ball sequence will be well done as will the King on his deathbed though.

This show played the Palladium in the 70s with Brynner and again in the 2000s with Elaine Paige. I don't think the show will have a problem suiting the venue. Also, this production originated at the Vivian Beaumont which is a huge vessel of a theatre much like the Olivier here or indeed the Barbican. It will be just fine in the Palladium.

The Palladium is ideal for the King and I! I have been lucky enough to see the past two productions there - with Yul Brynner and Elaine Paige (not together!)
The "Shall We Dance" number is totally thrilling - an iconic moment in musical theatre and is usually reprised several times due to the audience reception and the King demanding "Again"!!
Plus of course Lady Thiang singing the incredibly moving "Something Wonderful" !

I suspect they'll be using the set that is similar to the one used for the US tour

For a theatre with over 2000 seats, it feels rather intimate, especially in the rear stalls compared to other large theatres. Also, the thrill of past productions here and the very fact it is the London Palladium make this the perfect home for the show. I'm looking forward to it.
