As someone whose job frequently confronts me with the truth about eating disorders, body dysmorphia and so on, people who make these sort of public comments, whether inside the theatre business or out, are downright dangerous. I’m trying to come up with a less angry term than I might use and the nicest I can find is shallow, irredeemably shallow.
A bit of education looks to be necessary here.

I see the denial fraternity are all here. There are people out there who have differing views on how parts should be cast and one of those measures is weight, or may be stature as height and build is a factor. Their view is equally valid and to deny their freedom to express it says more about the self-appointed guardians of political correctness.
If it waddles like a duck.......

I wouldn’t argue ‘political correctness’, it’s basic human kindness and respect for others. There’s a rule I think about a lot: if the person can’t change it in 10 seconds (e.g a hair out of place, a lipstick smudge etc) then don’t comment on it. Commenting on weight is never okay, but if saying that makes me a part of the ‘pc brigade’ then I’ll take it...

And I think your friends are all rubbish. Now how about you stick to “I disagree because...” and cut the shading of people you do not know? The moderator post up the page was more Indirect but no less guilty of abusing strangers and a member’s personal life. If we’re going down that route then I hope I’m not wasting my time replying to a scrabble playing, pizza lover with a stamp collection - they really wind me up. If your friends dismiss someone's suitability for a role on the grounds that they are "fat", I don't need to know anything more about them. I hope this helps! What's wrong with scrabble playing, collecting stamps and eating pizza, by the way? That’s not an argument, it’s a snap judgement based on disagreeing with your personal view. If your life is so intolerant then perhaps it’s why you find solace here (or playing scrabble)

People are free to make vile comments if they want but none of the boo-hooing when they get called out on it, please. If people are going to give it out they’d better learn to soak it up in return. The term is ‘politeness’ anyway, something apparently with little value in the society of today. P.S. Is your avatar some sort of tribute?

I didn’t actually make any vile comments, I didn’t mention any actors names and was simply sharing what a large group of my friends as the paying public commented on regarding sex appeal, weight and age. They are allowed that opinion. In short the showbiz industry is full of boxes and casting types and yes this show breaks that and turns it on it’s head. For many people in the audience that is a welcome thing just like normalising plus sizes are on UK high streets. To others it’s not acceptable culturally where they come from (a Broadway American cast would be very different for example) and that should be respected too. We are all different. Was the comment vile? I don’t think it was.... Ps aingidh above - if you’re amazingly talented and tall like Nick Greenshield then it wouldn’t matter you would be cast. If you are not an incredible performer and overweight then no, you won’t be playing the romantic lead role in my show. Nothing personal - that is casting. I wish people would accept that is the business. You could be the best looking person in the world but if you have crooked teeth you will not be cast.

I actually would not go for the "romantic lead" because I simply am more skilled at being a character actor due to experience with improv comedy in the past. I know my own strengths and weaknesses in terms of performance.

Funny how you’re saying that actors who don’t fit into a particular physical mold simply don’t get cast in leading roles, when clearly they do. Otherwise you wouldn’t be making your point about Carrie and discussing her weight.
All of this drama further convinces me that Musical Marge, Waybeyondblue and Parsley (among others I’m sure) are all multiple accounts created by the same individual, choosing to post under a certain type of character. We all have good and bad within us, but I suspect this is one person choosing to disperse their traits across multiple accounts (though I’m fully prepared to accept if I’m wrong).

Actually, to add to what @tom89 said, despite me "not being traditional casting", I have played and understudied several lead roles e.g. Galileo in WWRY, Che and Magaldi in Evita and Seymour in LSOH, and also performed in the young ensemble cast of a musical at the Edinburgh Fringe, all of which are huge personal achievements for me, and I've worked too hard and long to be told I am not cut out for this industry thank you very much.

I thought the costumes were looking a bit scruffy when I saw it last week which surprised me seeing as it’s stil quite new. Those super red green yellows all looked slightly grubby and the blue jacket looked really cheap and badly made. I thought the whole thing looked bargain basement, to be honest.

As I say, reporting others’ private comments in public is quite possibly worse than making them in private, given that they did so without the expectation of them being relayed to the rest of the world. Saying that Broadway is different and that people’s ‘culture’ should be respected is also not an argument, it’s craven and weak. This you say about a country that would not long ago have done the same about race and which now is engaged on a similar cultural trip to hell. As I say, not an argument, just an abdication of any sort of responsibility and amoral if not actively immoral. That isn’t what happens in this business, at least the majority of it that does actually have a spine.

Can we please change subject now? The last 4 pages of this thread have seemingly been a discussion of the suitability Carrie Hope Fletcher in this show, and not about Heathers.
It’s getting seriously uncomfortable to read and respond to, so I suggest we just move on and try to ignore discussing the weight, age and sex appeal of performers. The main demographic of this show is teenagers and it’s so important that everyone must be included, ignoring weight, sex appeal, sexuality and disability so that teenagers are not led into thinking that everyone should look the same.
Rant over. Back to Heathers.
I think this will definitely have a life post-Haymarket. There has been so much hype surrounding it, and BK has actually spent some money in terms of sets, casting and marketing the show. It will definitely tour but I’m not sure if it will immediately.

Yes, it looks like he spent about fifty quid on the set. Ten quid more than usual 🙄

In comparison to the amount of cash spent on Eugenius - not BK, I know - Heathers is lavish. Aside from the talented cast, I struggled to see where my ticket money was spent on that one.

This could have a great touring life though (ooh and Carrie loves a tour vlog!) but in all seriousness, teens around the country would flock to this. It would be an excellent money-spinner. Maybe they could even buy some new costumes

I think myself and martello736 would both agree that Ashleigh Gray or Amy Ross should play Heather Chandler should Jodie Steele be unavailable.

Olivia Moore is debuting as Veronica tonight.
Carrie Hope Fletcher fans will be salty once the curtain goes up and their idol isn't stood there.

Positive note though, stage door may be civilised. CHF fangirls probably won't bother with stagedooring, leaving the stage door free for genuine fans of the show, or perhaps nobody will stage door, and the actors can leave in peace.

Ohhhh god, cue Carrie getting sent her usual threats on twitter. I wish Olivia all the best as she probably didn't ever think she would get on in her cover!
