If you type ‘Jodie Steele’ into google the first offered result is ‘Jodie Steele age’. We are not the only people speculating about this.
I want to repeat, she was very good in the role but it was blatantly noticeable.

I mean really people, no one in this show looks beleivably the age of their characters.

I'd say it doesn't really matter what age you are as long as you can make it look believable on stage that you are a 17 year old. I don't know how old Jodie is but I'd guess late 20s/early 30s.

When I saw Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad in The Book of Mormon on Broadway, they were a long way past being 19yrs old and it didn't detract at all from the show. Same with Gavin Creel and Jared Gertner in the London cast. Personally I don't think realistic ages matter that much in a musical comedy. There are many examples of this syndrome, most of the Elphabas and Glindas look very mature for college students. If the performances are outstanding, the mismatch in age melts away very quickly (in my opinion anyway). That was definitely the case for me with Jodie Steele.

I wonder what these teenage delinquents would think of such age-blind casting...

Looking forward to seeing this on Sat. What’s the merch like?

Looking forward to seeing this on Sat. What’s the merch like? The line is hell. And blocks the main entrance to the theatre because of the fangirls having to own everything under the sun. If you want a programme, just wait until you get into the auditorium or you'll be there a lifetime. I've seen several comments, including my experience of the show, that the main merch stand rub out of programmes or have none very early from when doors open.

Looking forward to seeing this on Sat. What’s the merch like? Tops and hoodies, a KRAM jacket, a notebook, compact mirror and makeup bag if memory serves. I’m sure there’s more though. They sold tote bags and pin badges at the Other Palace but don’t remember seeing them at TRH.

^ yep. I avoided browsing for long, to avoid the crowds. I would’ve liked a poster but there didn’t appear to be any.

Honestly, for a show like this I'd put it in the same 'box' as Hairspray (where I don't think I've ever seen a Tracy much under 30 and it never occurs to anyone to care). It's cartoony and overblown, and when you've got the same actors who play (multiple) parents or teachers turning up as teenagers in the party scenes, it's hardly a big deal.

I saw this tonight. I much preferred it at The Other Palace where it’s fringe feel alternative home was better suited than mainstream West End. Two of my mates I took didnt like it at all and were saying she was too fat, she was too old, he wasn’t sexy enough, the songs too in your face and the piece just too twisted - and that comes from non theatre folk. I enjoyed it but I do wish the transfer had been Carrie instead.

Just the items mentioned above the night I was there.

They should sell cleaning fluid and guns on the merchandise stand. It would really help with dealing with bad behaviour in the audience.

Thanks all for the input! May avoid the merch stand and just get a programme then. Dont want to end up in a fight with a teenage girl over a t shirt...
Just seen on Instagram carrie is under the weather. Hoping she’s better for this Saturday matinee. Any idea who the understudy Veronica is?

It said she was under the weather but from what I can see she still went ahead with radio promo and the show.

Now how about you stick to “I disagree because...” and cut the shading of people you do not know? The moderator post up the page was more Indirect but no less guilty of abusing strangers and a member’s personal life. If we’re going down that route then I hope I’m not wasting my time replying to a scrabble playing, pizza lover with a stamp collection - they really wind me up.

She was in very fine voice at the matinee today - even stronger than when I saw the show in early previews at TOP. Nice to hear her voice grow as she's settled into the role, which is almost certainly the biggest sing of all the roles she's played.
