I don't know that the Piccadilly is *prime* real estate, it's awfully tucked away... It's like the Shaftesbury, that isn't exactly hard to find but it's not a theatre desired by producers.

Is there any chatter about who may be taking over from Will Young, if the run continues?

Hopefully there won’t be too many broken hearts if Jason Donovan doesn’t take over from Will.

I say - get Kerry Katona! Lol
Actually Jason is a smart idea because even though people take the piss, he’s a good performer. Maybe get Darius?

It won’t be Jason- he’s got tour dates in September and October, and then he’s doing the War Of The Worlds tour. That’s why he turned down Chicago as he couldn’t get the dates to work!

Every time I've seen him in anything he's been wooden and out of tune. And the least said about his FranknFurter performance the better. On a positive note at least we'd get a genuine Aussie accent

BUT I think the Aussie accent shouldn't be underestimated. The WORST thing about WEL was Will's accent. That said I still don't think I'd be tempted to see this if JD was in it. Though I'd be more tempted than I am now....

Jason Donovan and his Amazing Mid-Life Crisis is at the Edinburgh Fringe this August if anyone want to see Mr Charisma in person. You can join him "as he shares moments from the last four decades that he wasn't able to tell us about on daytime television". If that doesn't sound grim enough, he'll also be singing.
As for Strictly Ballroom, if Will is leaving the Piccadilly at the end of July, it makes it all the more bizarre why they changed the entire show just to have him as an unnecessary narrator for four and a half months.
Maybe they could use his departure to unravel the mess they've created and go back to something closer to what they had in Leeds. That version of the show might not have been perfect but it had a heart and soul which has been trampled over with the changes they've made since. I don't think it's a case of Will goes, get a new narrator, and it's 'problem solved' with the show in its current guise.

John will no doubt find some family connection to Australia which would qualify him for the part and allow him to slip into yet another local accent.

Surely we have the perfect replacement for Will within out ranks. He's been performing, at the highest level, for more years than most of us have been alive, and although he's been a British citizen since 1960, I'm sure he can still speak with an absolutely authentic Australian accent. Have the producers been in touch yet, tonyloco ?

It’s only 2 songs he sings for those interested- which is probably only me!

I’m thinking a Barrowman/ Ball double act and role switching - MC one night - green ballroom dancer the next. We all know they both love a frock ! It worked for Frankenstein.

Does Will’s replacement necessarily have to be male?

Ooh it's kicking off tonight. Wilma is "indisposed". I just don't think he can be faffed. I've just been hit by a hormone patch!

If I could 'ave sung, my career would have been bigger than Liberace and Barry Manilow put together. Stone the crows, just think about that! No, I reckin' the best replacement would be Barrowman, Ball and Boe all together, alternating various roles and sometimes playing them together – crikey, can you imagine it?

What was it like in Leeds? No narrator? No narrator and the main characters (including Gemma Sutton as Fran) actually got to sing. The score was also quite different, with several original (serviceable but not particularly memorable) songs which have since been dropped. The whole thing was feel-good, vibrant fun. Now it just feels laboured, tacky and soulless.

Such a shame they felt they needed to cut it to pieces.
