I found this atrocious and even worse than the Leeds production.
Saying that on Saturday I bought a ticket for The Grinning Man on Todaytix flash sale for £15. a return visit and that was equally atrocious and wished I hadn't.

Saw it tonight -- absolute codswollop. Embarrassingly bad, and seasoned pros like Ms Francolini should be ashamed of themselves. Still, I suppose a job is a job --- GRINNING MAN also dreadful, I quite agree.

It's sad really. The Piccadilly need a show to go in and run. It's a great theatre!

"Flaccid and tacky" according to London Theatre. I assume they're talking about the show as a whole and not just Will.

What kind of reviews did it get in its previous incarnation before the Will Young character?

Slightly better I think. There were certainly some 3 and 4 stars at WYP.

So what next for the Piccadilly Theatre? Not wanting to wish Strictly Ballroom closure but I always thought the Piccadilly would be a good venue for Addams Family but that's heading out on tour again so that wont be happening. God only knows what will play here next but sad to see a new musical receive such poor reviews.

What kind of reviews did it get in its previous incarnation before the Will Young character? This is fairly representative of most of the reviews, I think, although it lets the very uneven score (cobbled together from a combination of existing songs and new ones by a few different songwriters) off the hook: Guardian - Strictly Ballroom WYPIt's not that far from what I thought of it - I thought it was a terrific production of a mediocre show with a terrible score.

It's sad really. The Piccadilly need a show to go in and run. It's a great theatre! Jersey Boys ran there three years so it's not exactly the house of flops! Would be a good home for Mean Girls

Seems the stage review felt the same as me. What a missed opportunity YET again. What is it with the West End? Is it because shows are cheap to put on they don’t have as much serious development as broadway? Shocking the amount of rubbish I’ve seen in the past 5 years!

Would be a good home for Mean Girls Jersey Boys was a known brand when it transferred from the Prince Edward. Although Mean Girls reviews and grosses are strong and Sonia Friedman is involved and produces in association with ATG, it is too soon for Mean Girls to come over, I would have thought Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen, Anastasia or Waitress more likely, could even be a possible that Groundhog Day could come back, not sure why GD didn’t go in there in the first place? Saying that I am sure that Priscilla got reviews like this and the press didn’t harm that.

Most who saw Strictly Ballroom over the past week didn’t.

Priscilla would have been so much better if it had an original score. Yes some of the songs are linked directly to the film but some were shoehorned in just for the hen parties.

What’s on Stage **** Broadway World **** Time Out **** Metro ****
Seems to me some of you are desperate for this to fail. And some of the frankly homophobic comments on this thread should make you all ashamed.

And some of the frankly homophobic comments on this thread should make you all ashamed. I'm glad it's got decent reviews, I never want to see a show fail- and neither do most of us. From what I gather most of those posting negatives here are those who have actually seen it, so are sharing their thoughts. Great if the public doesn't agree and it gets a decent run. What homophobic comments? (genuine question, I've just gone back over 2 pages to see if anyone said anything out of line and I can't see anything remotely in that vein)

It got the odd 4 stars yes but I would think these are bad reviews wouldn’t you? I wish the show well, but I really didn’t like it...

Because it was developed by The Old Vic so made sense to premier there. Then it was rushed over to Broadway and landed in the one of the busiest seasons for new productions of late. I get the impression it was only intended as a short run in the UK as a means of testing it pre-US.
