If this gets panned I wonder how long it will run. This has coach trip written all over it and doesn't exactly scream fangirl from an outside perspective. If people haven't booked already, will they with possible mixed to bad reviews? We shall see. I'm intrigued by it, and will go for the three leads. I may have to join @ryan in the box though. If this gets panned I wonder how long it’ll take Will to run...

I wonder if this is why the atmosphere seemed a bit strained when Norton interviewed them on radio last week. WY suddenly interrupted the chat to say how amaaaaaazing it was working with Zizi and Jonny. It sounded a bit false to me, like the magnanimous star being kind to the little people. There was a bit of an awkward moment afterwards when they didn’t seem to know how to react. If this gets panned I wonder how he’ll react to the criticism? If this gets panned in the national media, Mr. Young's very vocal fans - some of whom are quite astonishingly stupid - will probably self-immolate. A few years ago, I saw Will Young perform as the Emcee in a touring production of Cabaret at the Lowry (I won't say he acted the role because he didn't). I wrote a blog post which (mostly) praised the production but (deservedly) shredded his performance and ranted a bit about the practice of casting unqualified celebrities in touring musicals. One of his more foaming-at-the-mouth fans found the link, I assume on Twitter, and posted it to a fan forum, where the devotees had a lovely time working themselves into a fury over it - which of course meant the post got about ten times as many readers as it would have otherwise. The emails were hilarious. Or at least, the spelling and grammar were hilarious, and the emails themselves were an odd intersection of childish/outraged/mildly threatening abuse. Apparently I should have written Mr. Young a personal apology - you know, because I paid for a theatre ticket and saw him give a terrible performance. I don't think Mr. Young is a particularly talented performer - but if those are his fans, I hope he's had a rabies shot.

please tell me they still have that wonderful spanish flamenco number that closes act 1. Time after time sung by the two leads when they were dancing was so lovely in Leeds. Just found the whole show to be magical and i really liked the original songs. I will still see it but feel so deflated. I thought the show in Leeds needed work - but yes, Time After Time was lovely, and one of the great highlights, and I can't imagine the moment working as well if the song is sung by someone else while they dance.

Oh my- not normally one to talk about a show before seeing it- but god this sounds like something else!
It's one thing to stunt cast a show and another to make the stunt cast the main character and ONLY one singing the catalogue of cringe 80s hits! Really think I'll steer far from this!
Such a shame; to have such talent as Zizi and then just let Will sing everything- and then to have no original songs! Really do think it's a cheek to call this a 'musical' - and it's not as if it's a musical that follows one artists' story or catalogue of music! I am bewildered as to what category this show comes under?¿?¿?¿
Another thing; What happens when Will leaves? Will they just continue to stunt cast this part? And is there any celebs to stunt cast that can carry this whole show?
Just realised how many exclamation marks there is- sorry!

Who exactly is the average Will Young fan? I mean I bought his second album and a couple of individual downloads after that, but that’s that. Are they a particular demographic? He doesn’t strike me as the kind of artist to have some rabid fan base - this is coming from someone who was part of the crazy Michael Jackson fan community for most of my life.

It was Caiaphas,I was there. I'd been a bit of a fan until that performance but it really was awful and put me right off him

No. The accent was absolutely bizarre, much of his dialogue was unintelligible. And that version of What Would You Do in small voice while he paced about in a nightie was hideous.

From what I saw yesterday the super fans/fanatics are women who are roughly middle aged. I knew a few people who were crazy fans of his during the Pop Idol days, and I think some of them have lived on. As Shady says, everyone seems to have an element of these fans lately. I'm a fan of Roger Federer, in that I enjoy watching his tennis, but there are some crazy fans of his, wearing RF earrings, dresses and talking and following him around like he's Jesus.

I saw the show in Leeds and really enjoyed it, and was so pleased that it was coming in to town and that Zizi Strallen had been cast. However, the change from a mix of original songs & film songs to an entirely jukebox song list and having only one person sing? I’m not sure I can get behind that. Friends who saw it in Leeds and were there yesterday have said positive things, so maybe it isn’t as bad as it seems, but I think I’ll be waiting a while to see it.

I really like Drew McOnie's work, I find it hard to believe he is behind something as bad as is being made out here. Maybe they are just having teething problems and will have it fixed by opening night.

*Arrives armour plated* Ach. You lot make me laugh. You don't complain (well ok, you do, but not as vociferously as this) at having purchased Chess tickets and they stick in Mickey Ball and here they put in someone *readjusts armour* with a far superior voice and you're all up in arms! Well I was actually in the process of booking when the pipe burst. So there. I'm going. And looking forward to it. (Hope the costumes didn't get wet.) For me, it's not even his voice, it's what he's doing there. He's in the way most of the time, actually touching the dancers while they are dancing. Or he's hopping around while Scott is actually dancing. It's just odd at times, especially when he has a dress over his outfit and he's just sitting there in it. Fair enough. Maybe some of the stick should be aimed at the director?
