Well. Wilma Young was indisposed (much to the chagrin of the woman at the box office demanding a refund PLUS a refund of her train ticket) so we got Fruity Ivan instead. He had me on his side until the end when he started waffling on about people walking their own path or other such American self-help claptrap and proceeded to then pretty much force everyone to get to their feet and dance even before the bows. Some of the audience really shouldn't have been encouraged. He's now on my blacklist.
As for the rest, I rather enjoyed the show myself, it was a lot of pantomime fun and the 'Time After Time' routine was really quite delightful. Jonny Labey was an absolute peach with some lovely tight trousers and mesmerising hips and Zizi Strallen was marvellous too, they made for a very sweet couple. The flamenco first act closer was really rather thrilling and kind of outshone the second act as there was nothing there to match it. If I had a gripe it was that Scott and Fran were almost sidelined in amongst lots of group action in the second half so I didn't feel they got the big finish they deserved. The show is also very busy and feels a bit cramped on the stage but on the whole it was thoroughly enjoyable camp old nonsense. Loved Gary Watson as Ken Railings too, with rather a whiff of Bob Downe about him.
And in a rather nice touch there was an announcement about Dame Gillian Lynne. I don't think the majority of the great unwashed had a clue who she was but some of them clapped anyway, bless 'em. So that was nice.
Oh and Catherine Martin is going onto my Christmas card list for putting Jonny Labey in a tight vest for a large chunk of the show. It was most appreciated.

I hear Wayne Sleep is replacing Will Young...
Haha (just joking but can you imagine?!?)

I wonder if the public even know Will Young is leaving in 4 weeks? There is no mention of this on the shows official website and only in small print on the ATG booking site - easily missed. The lack of announcement of a replacement in 4 weeks ensures no-one is aware of Will leaving. If people are booking to see him - as the box office draw - then they are going to be annoyed!
Still haven't seen this show. Not a fan of Will Young and may wait to see who replaces him before I go.

I think they're waiting to the last minute so they can do some "Get your tickets as Wilma is about to Leave Right Now" promotion.

That's if it's still around by then, looking at a ATG seat map for the future, not many seats are sold.

Wouldn't it be lovely if when he leaves they closes the show for a month - like they did for "Martin Guerre" and "Sunset Boulevard" - and rethink the production But I suppose they can't afford to do that and it didn't work for the former anyway. This is the big difference between Broadway and London as in the USA they would try to do an "out of towner" first, see what the problems are and sort them out BEFORE coming in. Mind you they did do this with "Strictly" but it sounds that they "chucked the baby out with the bathwater".

I've had an email from WhatsOnStage today announcing Will's departure on 28th July so the word is now out there!

I see this closing end of August few tours as fillers for a few months and Waitress or Anastasia in next feb/march please and thank you's btw if John Barrowman takes over that may spark my interest in seeing the show. Unfortunately there west end life performance did nothing for me to see it. Zizi Strallen is the only person that makes me want to see this atm.

Is Matt Cardle replacing a good thing or a bad thing?

Really didn't think this would be his kind of role. I look at something like Charlie in Kinky Boots and think that's far more up his street. Surprising casting.

I don't see him as Charlie tbh, too straight for him but maybe this is leaning far the other way. I haven't seen the show though so don't really know.

Does Matt Cardle even have that big of a fan base?
If anything him doing has made me want to see this show even less; only thing that interested me was Zizi Strallen, and this casting has made it a definite no no!
Although I feel bad for cast and crew, I do think this will end up closing at the end of the summer. Which makes way for new exciting openings!

Matt Cardle was great in Memphis, but this sounds like a very different role!

Definitely echo what others are saying on here. Memphis made me a Matt Cardle fan but this isn't a role I'd have necessarily pegged him for. But time will tell I guess!

I'm happy he's back in Theatre as that means he could be open to more roles. After Memphis in interviews it seemed like he wouldn't jump back in.
I was so surprised by his performance in Memphis, I thought he was really strong. He outshone Bev for me.
