It really annoys me seeing as they get our shows. Why don't Broadway send some back? It's not like they don't make money, Frankenstein stills sells out

National Theatre do the filming which was initiated under Nicholas Hytner after seeing a cinema screening from the New York Met Opera and obviously impressed.
All Broadway shows are filmed anyway for achieve purposes for the Libary of Performing Arts. They did film For Mice and Men that got a cinema release, so it is starting to happen.

As with anything Broadway-related, the reason will be 100% commercial. The producers must be sure that they can make a bigger profit by restricting access to live theatre attendance than by opening up to digital cinemas. Aren't Broadway unions much stronger than those in the UK? I expect that they'd demand prohibitively high fees for everyone involved.

I know it was even before Of Mice and Men, but wasn't The Importance of Being Earnest on Broadway with Brian Bedford broadcast to cinemas in the US (or "movie theaters")? Did that make it's way over the pond?

I'm surprised NY hasn't caught on We do now have BroadwayHD, which is really more like LotsOfLondonHD and some Broadway. |

In the last six months or so, Broadway shows in the cinema in the US were She Loves Me, Allegiance (twice) and Newsies.
