Anyone watching? I'm up to episode 4 and really enjoying it. Jonas Nay needs to get on the London stage so I can admire his beautiful face in person!

Yes the series is excellent and I usually cannot stand subtitles! I can recommend Spin too - French subtitles this time!

It's OK but I prefer my old episodes of Kommissar Rex on YouTube. It has the added benefit you can turn the subtitles on and off as you please!
I'm trying to swot up on my German before a holiday and hoped Deutschland 83 would be ideal. But quite a lot of the vocabulary/ideas are pretty specialist so I find I understand half of a sentence, then look for the subtitle to get the rest, then realise I've missed it there too. So I end up over-relying on the subtitles, which is frustrating.
I don't find the characters that thrilling either. Except for Lady Macbeth, as I always think of her. She's great!

Du kannst Deutsch mit mir üben Deutschland 83 war a flop here in Germany. Not surprisingly though, because it was on entirely the wrong channel. But I also thought it was a bit naff. Gimme the French stuff any time. Engrenages > Spin.

After watching Deutschland 83 I've had a bit of a Walter Presents binge, watching Swiss drama 10 and series 1 of Spin. Might go for the more light-hearted Kabul Kitchen before embarking on Spin series 2... Anyone else watched the other C4 offerings? Any recommendations?

Not Ch4 but Trapped on BBC 4 is excellent.

Yes, somehow I've managed to miss that, which is odd because I see most of the Beeb world dramas. Will have to see if iPlayer are still series stacking from episode 1...

If you have Sky Arts then Occupied and The Legacy are both great. Also filthy French sitcom "Hard" (woman takes over her late husband's pr0n business)
Going back a bit Heimat is one of the best things ever, particularly series 2 which is (among other things) about avant garde German music and theatre in the 60s

Going back a bit Heimat is one of the best things ever, particularly series 2 which is (among other things) about avant garde German music and theatre in the 60s Heimat series 1 is just about my favourite cinema and television ever. I had a family bereavement on Friday, and within a day I was remembering the final scene and then following various threads back through the episodes to their beginnings.
