ALW is banging on about wanting Liam Payne to play Joseph when it 'returns to the west end later this year'
Please god no?? I know he's run out of any new ideas but purlease spare us. And like LP would do it.

It sounds an awful prospect. It seems to sell OK on tour but I'm sure there are better options for London than bringing this in.

Will there be any theatre free unless it's the cheap Kenwright production going to somewhere like the Playhouse or between Winds and the Willows and Dick Whittington at the Palladium.

He may do it if the money is right, he could make a fortune, and do a short contract. He has a baby to pay for after all... The audience behaviour would be horrific though, I couldn't bear it.

At this point I need to Google Liam Payne. Save yourself the effort. One Direction star. Dating Cheryl whatever her surname is this month

Joseph given a big new production wouldn't be a bad addition to the West End offerings. But the Billy K version - with the cardboard sets - should never be allowed in any theatre ever again.

Can Liam Payne even sing? To a degree...somewhere between Buble and Timberlake...as if that should actually be a thing.

Now I'm imagining Liam in a loincloth and Cheryl as the Narrator (miming to Linzi Hately singing it)

I used to love Joseph growing up from the album and the Donny Osmond film, and to be honest I have nothing wrong really with Liam Payne doing it on the West End provided he CAN sing and act it (pretty sure some people felt the same way about Jason Donovan back in the 90s), but from what I remember of the stage musical, it seemed like there was only about 1 hour and 20 mins worth of decent material that tells the story and the rest of it is just extended overtures, entr'acte and an ETERNITY of encores. I know it is because it was originally written for schools, but surely it should be revised or (rightly) extended more. But then again I guess, seeing as it's been around for nearly 50 years everyone probably thinks by now if isn't broken don't fix it! And how the Kenwright version is STILL touring to this day baffles me.

Now I'm imagining Liam in a loincloth and Cheryl as the Narrator (miming to Linzi Hately singing it) I had a similar thought...but also with the rest of One Direction as brothers! I actually wouldn't put it past ALW to try and do that! Oh dear, now I'm imagining the rest of Girls Aloud and Little Mix as the wives and Rylan Clark as Pharaoh!

I for one will be protesting outside the theatre it will occupy, should an announcement be made. Who is with me?

If it was a nice full revival, I wouldn't mind it. When Joseph opened in the early 90s with Jason Donovan, it introduced a whole new generation to one of ALW's earliest works - people like me who knew all the big shows like Cats, Phantom, JCS, Evita and so on - and it was great fun. And people did have the same misgivings about Jason Donovan "the soap star and mediocre pop singer".
I admit I wasn't aware that this is still touring as a cheap Kenwright production. But even so, why not try and introduce another new generation to Joseph? Nobody complained when Evita or Cats came back or that JCS keeps popping up. Nobody is forced to see it and I'd rather have a Joseph revival than more jukebox stuff like Thriller Live or Motown.

Does the Kenwright version still lose a brother at certain points due to cast members doubling up roles? I know when I saw it in Sheffield a few years back every so often I wondered when they were going to explain to Jacob that it wasn't just Joseph they had lost.

Surely Jenny Seagrove plays Joseph in the tour? No, Andy LW and Simon Cowell pimp out there latest talent show winners/losers/members of steps to keep it running. Seagrove makes the teas.
