Michael Crawford will star in musical adaptation of L.P. Hartley's 1953 novel The Go-Between at Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue from May 27th.

Strange how this has appeared out of nowhere...
No idea of who is writing it or anything else.
I am guessing Crawford will be the old man looking back on the events of that summer when he was the boy running messages - no other role for him.
Will be interesting to see how this develops

There was a production at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in 2011 and is being developed by Perfect Pitch. It won Best Musical Production at the 2012 Theatre Management Association's UK Theatre Awards. It's adapted by David Wood, with music by Richard Taylor and lyrics by Wood & Taylor (thanks, Wikipedia!).

Quite a nice song (wouldn't mind singing it myself - which is always a good sign)

I'd love to go, I have never seen Michael Crawford on stage and I don't think it's wise to wait.

I saw him in Barnum - he was a showstopper then for certain

An old white man singing a ballad in a period musical drama. Someone wake me up from this nightmare.

How on earth can you tell that it is a 'nightmare' on the basis on 1m30 of a trailer of a song that might not even be from this adaptation?
It might not be your style of theatre - but given that we have next to nothing to go on about this project, perhaps you could give it a bit more time? Maybe...?

Not every new musical has to be 'Hamilton'.
This sounds a bit dull though. The whiff of flop has floated this way, too.

Well the 70's film I loved so I may make a rare foray to a musical for this, great story.

I'm surprised at so much negativity. I remember the West Yorkshire Playhouse production getting excellent reviews from the critics and several of them hoped it would transfer to the West End. David Wood has a distinguished record of adaptations (although he has tended to specialise more in children's shows).

Should sell well as Michael Crawford has a big fan base. I last saw him in The Woman in White.

Well, this has come out the blue but the adaptation of this on the BBC last year was very good so I'm intrigued to see it reimagined as a musical. And Michael Crawford's involvement shouldn't do ticket sales any harm. Is the top level of the Apollo still closed?

I know La Crawford is fairly good value but that's going to be some amazing make-up job for him to convince as a 13 year old boy . . .
