Gross. It's remarkable that the UK tours of Shrek, Hairspray and Legally Blonde, Joseph all refuse to die.

Because they all sell!!! Thus bringing money into the theatre business, actors, musicians & crew, producers etc.... stop complaining and support the arts, regardless of whether or not it's to your liking! I could say the same about Shakespear plays, but I darent!

Tour starts December.
I've heard that it's going to be scaled down from the last tour...I really hope I've heard wrong.

I missed the show on the WE and also on tour previously so i'm interested to be able to go and see it. I did see a bit of the filmed broadway version of the show but i didn't really like how it was done so didn't watch it all.

I could say the same about Shakespear plays, but I darent! Horrible analogy. Shakespeare is Shakespeare- not to mention that Shakespeare plays bring something new to the table with groundbreaking interpretations at times. None of these tours are going to be groundbreaking productions. They are a cheap imitation of the original versions. I do support the arts, which is why I have high expectations and push boundaries for better variety and quality.

Again?!
Hasn't it just toured twice recently? I quite enjoyed it but not enough to go back so soon.

Another huge lover of this musical, very excited to see it tour again. The DVD of the Broadway production is one of my favourite stage-filmed musicals, but I just love the show itself, especially the brilliant score.

Again?! Hasn't it just toured twice recently? I quite enjoyed it but not enough to go back so soon. Toured once but it was a long one, over a year I think. I saw it when it opened at the Palace, Manchester and it was brilliant, saw it when it came back for the final date at the Lowry and it was looking more than a bit tired! God knows how Farquad had managed to do that on his knees 8 times a week for a year.* My faves are I Know Its Today and that fabulous Act 2 opening tap routine with the pied piper and the rats. How anyone could watch that and not have a huge grin on their face is unimaginable to me. *im pre-ordering the taxi for @theatremonkey

I could say the same about Shakespear plays, but I darent! That's what this forum is for though. Dare to say what you want about Shakespeare (in the relevant place of course). Of course you are right that each production will keep lots of people employed and possibly be a good introduction to the Theatre for some people. However, I agree with ali973, that the repetition can breed complacency in theatre-goers, but more importantly in the producers who will have less incentive to try new things. Of course they could use money they earn from these tours to invest in new and groundbreaking shows, but they won't all do that, will they??!

BB are you confusing Shrek with mine and Theatremonkey's long awaited adaptation of 50 Shades...
On that note we've just found our leading man, he's proven he's got stamina on his knees...
I'll get my own taxi.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe in the film Shrek actually says "Try the beef! I'm here all week!"
In referencing Lord Farquaad he also says something along the lines of "Perhaps he's overcompensating for something?".

In referencing Lord Farquaad he also says something along the lines of "Perhaps he's overcompensating for something?". It's packed with innuendo. I know it's a cliche to say something intended for kids can be appreciated on a totally different level for adults but it's definitely true here. We thought it was hilarious. And Sutton Foster on the Broadway DVD is fab. Hope its not Holden on the tour!
