I've said all along, Amber is completely untested as a MT theatre actress (performing live on the Glee tour is not the same) and expecting her to perform at that level in her first show is insane. The producers should not set people's expectations like that, its ridiculous especially as they've just had a similar situation with Funny Girl. BurlyBeaR, didn't she do a run on Broadway in Cotton Club? If so, I wonder how her attendance was there? |

I saw this tonight the first time since the initial previews.
And shall attend tomorrow also
It is no doubt a good solid crowd pleaser
With a powerful theme (as opposed to a plot as such)
But sitting there listening to song after somg
It makes me wonder how much the general public actually know about singing
Some of the amplification and singing border on screaming so distorted are the lyrics
The leads are good enough
But they aren't Beyoncé or Jennifer Hudson for sure
I have heard both of these sing live from Dreamgirls
There are elements of the stage show that just cannot match that

I will add
The lighting and spangly staging are exceptional
The costumes and choreography and beyond that the fluidity between transitions of scenes is truly top notch
For me it's actually the singing that is not completely up to scratch
I suppose it depends on what quality and standard of vocals one is used to

Is there any info on how long Amber may stay with the show as yet?? After our cancelled show on the 7th would like to book again. But after the journey from Cornwall and Germany we would like to think we could try to see her this time.

I'd imagine she'll stay at least 6 months. I'd hope a year if this isn't a limited run show, but then she's an American star so may not want to get tied to a project longer than 6 months. |

And also I agree that Beyoncé and Jennifer Hudson were the best casting ever for the film and I don't think anybody can match their singing voices for the show...but did you really expect Beyoncé and Jen Hudson to star in the show?

Gasp, I saw the show last night too! Parsley, if only I'd known... So, I loved this. The book isn't the strongest by far, and my friend and I both noted that Steppin' To The Bad Side was staged a bit strangely, it just didn't seem right to us but I can't explain why. Performances were excellent all round though. Contrary to what some on here have said, I thought that Liisi was wonderful, and Lily Fraser was fine too. Michelle isn't exactly the biggest role though. Ensemble were excellent, Ibinabo Jack has fantastic comedic timing and a wonderful voice. I could go on and on. Oh my goodness though, I have to echo what others have said about Adam J Bernard and Amber Riley. Absolute stars! Amber especially left me speechless, I couldn't believe how effortless her voice seemed. They both give unmissable performances! Oh, and the set, costumes and lighting REALLY stood out to me in this production. So glitzy! I loved that!  Overall a great show, I'll definitely be recommending to others!  |

2* from The Times
Dominic Cavendish in the Telegraph comments along the lines that Andrew Lloyd Webber should be pointed in the direction of the West End if he thinks theatre is "hideously white", as we have an astounding 3 musicals playing that are "dominated by top-of-the-range black talent": Thriller Live!, Motown and now Dreamgirls. So there's Mr Cavendish pretty much missing the point entirely.

Where did you get that from? I was assuming it would be extended but spoke to box office earlier today and they said that it's only booking until May and then touring after that, starting in Liverpool. This doesn't sound very likely but that's the info they are giving out???
Anyone have an explanation?
