I wonder when Amber is leaving... after the Oliviers I would LOVE to see her but I don't think she's staying until December ((( At the Musical Marathon concert on Sunday, Tyrone Huntley said he was there until November, so cast change is in November. Amber has said, I think on the Oliviers she is definitely going back to America, assumingly on Broadway for Dreamgirls, so I imagine she will go in November too. I was chatting to Marisha outside the theatre before the show and she said she is there until November at the moment, but wants to stay and when I mentioned people want her to take over, she said if she is asked, she will!

It's one of my must-see musical shows in December (I'm still planning though, too many musical shows to see and I bet there will be more by then...)

I'll report back later...

Indeed she is. I always thought Lily was first cover, so they've either shuffled the order (based on my programme from January, Jocasta would be third cover Deena) or they've gone for Disney-style hierarchy-free understudies.

Well well well...take a bow Ms Riley, take a bow.
Vocal performance, absolutely flawless. Genuinely can't remember the last time I was so bowled over by a voice in a theatre. Certainly don't think I've ever leapt to my feet before the Interval (don't worry the rest of the Stalls did too...keep me out of that bad behaviour thread!)
I think Amber's singing is better than her acting - I much preferred Marisha in that sense, with her I really felt like I was watching Effie White - tonight I was very much watching Amber Riley.
Jocasta Almgill was really fantastic as Deena. I think it took her a little while to get going and she did look a tad nervous at times (though in fairness it's only her fourth performance in the role) but by "Listen" she really hit it for six. The audience loved her. I think with a consistent run she could be as good as, if not better than, Liisi. I'd love to see her take over the role permanently if/when Liisi takes the show to Broadway.
Asmeret Ghebremichael as Lorrell...what a performance. I saw her second show back in March and she blew me away then. As if it were possible for her to improve any further, she has done. She's really settled into the part and the show, and you'd have no idea she joined months later than the rest of the cast.
Rohan Richards as Curtis - similarly as with Jocasta he took some warming too...I was anxious as I really didn't enjoy Joe Aaron Reid's performance either time I saw him but wasn't sure if it was the actor or the part/direction, anyway once he settled I really liked him. Joe definitely has the stronger voice, but Rohan wins for me based on the fact that, unlike Joe, he uses more than two facial expressions throughout the show.
Tosh Wanogho-Maud was on as Jimmy, and he got the biggest audience reaction after Amber. He absolutely lit up that stage every time he was on - phenomenal voice, he really got into the character and commanded such a stage presence. Really was a leading man's performance.
Had Durone Stokes as C.C. - he was very good and I can have no complaints, but I just think it's impossible for anyone to come close to Tyrone Huntley.
Lily Fraser as Michelle...Lily, Lily, Lily. I know it isn't really much of a part (she can't get on stage for much more then 15/20 minutes in the whole show?) but she's just a bit meh. Vocals were a little bit pitchy and she kind've just blended in. Would be intrigued to see how she tackles Deena.
The Savoy (notice the "the", Olivier Awards?!) seem to be taking steps to improve audience behaviour - the bars now close on the three minute bell to help prevent latecomers, and there are signs around the foyers and toilets asking people not to "sing loudly" or "dance wildly" as to not disrupt the audience or performers. Happy to report generally good behaviour tonight, save for the usual odd toilet-goer and sweetie-rustler. Instant standing ovation at the end of Act I, and again once the Dreams came out at the Curtain Call.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening, four stars.

Marisha is doing both performances next Wednesday, for those wanting to see her, which, lets face it, should be all of you! Although Amber is scheduled to be off the Monday and Tuesday as well so I'm assuming we get to see Karen do those two performances?

Also, it does now say on ATG: Amber Riley is scheduled to perform in Dreamgirls until Saturday 18 November 2017. So safe to assume she will definitely be leaving then, and that will be the cast change evening!

Ummmm, so she is telling us she IS going then?
Says one thing night after night and then does something else.
New Effie White = Theresa May. You heard it here first.

I didn't mean that with shade haha, I just saw it on the ATG website and thought I would share it as I didn't know if we had official confirmation for people (that sounds shadier than I meant it, but you know how people on here like a source!)
By the sounds of it, Karen is doing this coming Monday, so by this logic, you will see Marisha at your performance the following Monday! She slays, you have no reason to worry. I haven't seen Karen though so I can't compare.

I do hope it's Marisha. I've seen La Riley twice now, and also have a ticket for that Friday the 5th, so I hope I see Marisha on Monday. Fingers crossed.

The dates available to buy tickets are odd. On ATG it goes up to October 21st 2017 then jumps all the way to September 25th 2018 - one off on its own, strange!
When that booking period extends, I'm booking for 18th November, you'd best belieeeeve!

Awww so sweet Come! It'll be fun and I'm sure they'll throw in some new riffs! That actually could be a very good theatre week with Amber's last and the first preview of Hamilton.
